Hawaiian Airlines to operate and maintain Amazon Air's fleet of 10 Airbus A330 freighter jets

Hawaiian Holdings, has confirmed its special agreement with Amazon to operate and maintain an initial fleet of 10 Airbus A330-300 freighters starting in the autumn of  2023.

Hawaiian will maintain and fly Amazon’s A330s under Hawaiian’s FAA air carrier certificate to move cargo between airports near the online retailer’s operations facilities. The initial 10 aircraft will enter into service in 2023 and 2024. The agreement also contemplates the ability to expand the fleet depending on Amazon’s future business needs.

“We are excited to help serve Amazon customers by providing additional air cargo capacity and logistics support. This recognizes our experience in providing safe and reliable operations, our incredible front-line team, and our shared focus on the customer,” said Peter Ingram, president and CEO at Hawaiian Airlines. “This relationship provides a catalyst to grow our business and the unique opportunity to diversify our revenue sources while capitalizing on our established strengths.”

“We’re thrilled to work with Hawaiian Airlines,” said Sarah Rhoads, Vice President, Amazon Global Air. “They will maintain and operate the next generation of aircraft in our fleet, which is a reflection of the excellence they deliver as a renowned airline with their own A330 aircraft.”

In preparation for service for Amazon, Hawaiian intends to establish a pilot base on the continental U.S., grow existing maintenance bases, and expand the hiring of pilots, mechanics, dispatchers, supply chain employees and others who will help support this new cargo operation.

In connection with the commercial agreement, the Company issued Amazon warrants to acquire up to 15 percent (post-issuance) of its common shares. The warrants are exercisable over the next 9 years.

Hawaiian – which in 1942 became the first commercial airline to transport scheduled U.S. air cargo with the nation’s first cargo certificate – today carries freight on passenger aircraft across its network of flights within Hawai‘i and between the islands and North America, Asia and Oceania.

Hawaiian Airlines and Par Hawaii Announce Plan to Jointly Explore Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Hawaiʻi

Hawaiian Airlines, the state’s largest and longest-serving air carrier, and Par Hawaii, LLC (“Par Hawaii”) an affiliate of Par Pacific Holdings, Inc. that is Hawaiʻi’s largest supplier of energy products, announced plans today to join forces to study the commercial viability of locally produced sustainable aviation fuels (“SAF”) — to replace all or a percentage of traditional kerosene-based jet fuel with fuel that is made with sustainable feedstocks.

This is a major step for both organizations to reduce carbon emissions, to address climate change and to create a more sustainable energy future for Hawaiʻi.

Based on a memorandum of understanding signed by both companies, Hawaiian Airlines and Par Hawaii will jointly evaluate the potential to convert two of the processing units at Par’s Kapolei refinery to produce renewable fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel; explore the production of locally grown, oil-yielding crops; study the feasibility of importing sustainable feedstocks to produce sustainable aviation fuel and other renewable products; and convene stakeholders to continue to support and identify federal and state policies and programs that accelerate Hawaiʻi-based production of renewable fuels.

“We have over 260 employees at our Kapolei refinery engaged in high quality manufacturing work,” said William Pate, president and CEO of Par Pacific. “We’re excited to be partnering with Hawaiian Airlines to innovate and position our business for the future. Aviation fuel represents approximately 40% of Hawaiʻi’s fuel demand, and our work with Hawaiian is an important step in addressing these emissions.”

"This is the first step in what we hope will be a long and productive relationship that reflects both parties' unwavering commitment to the environment and to these islands we call home," said Peter Ingram, president and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines. "SAF is an integral part of decarbonizing aviation, and we hope to be able to make joint investments in SAF production here in Hawaiʻi, which will benefit both the environment and our economy.”

Ingram added: “We know that it will take more than just our companies to accomplish this ambitious objective, and we look forward to engaging with partners across the community to build a more sustainable future for travel to, from and within the islands.”

Hawaiian Airlines teaming up with Jason Momoa’s water company Mananalu, featuring infinitely recyclable aluminium bottles

Hawaiʻi’s hometown carrier and Mananalu expect to remove 284,000 plastic bottles annually

Hawaiian Airlines is bringing Mananalu, the water company founded by Hawaiʻi environmental activist and celebrity Jason Momoa, to its Premium Cabins to replace plastic water bottles with infinitely recyclable aluminium bottles.

Hawaiʻi’s hometown airline is now distributing Mananalu’s 16-ounce aluminium bottle to Premium Cabin guests on all U.S. East Coast and international flights. The recyclable product will also replace plastic water bottles sold on Hawaiian’s Pau Hana snack cart on the carrier’s flights between Hawaiʻi and its 16 continental U.S. gateway cities.

“We have remained steadfast in our commitment to source more sustainable products for our onboard service, and our Mananalu partnership helps us continue to phase out single-use plastics and protect our oceans and environment,” said Avi Mannis, chief marketing and communications officer at Hawaiian Airlines.

Hawaiian anticipates eliminating approximately 142,000 plastic bottles from its transpacific operations each year through its partnership with Mananalu. For every plastic bottle replaced onboard, Mananalu, a certified carbon neutral company and 1% for the Planet member, will divert an additional bottle away from oceans and waterways through its work with the leading plastic action platform repurpose Global, resulting in an additional 142,000 bottles removed annually.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Hawaiian Airlines. Together we’re reducing single-use plastic bottles on flights and removing plastic from our oceans. It’s perfect brand alignment," said David Cuthbert, CEO of Mananalu.

.Mananalu has worked to educate consumers about the impact of plastics on the environment since
Momoa founded the company in 2019 in collaboration with the Ball Corporation, the world's largest aluminium producer. Mananalu packages its water products in BPA-free aluminium, the most recycled material across the globe, with more than 75% of all aluminium produced still utilized today. It also uses triple-filtered purified drinking water with added electrolytes and a neutral PH of approximately 7, responsibly sourced in the United States for minimal carbon impact. Consumers can purchase Mananalu products on its website, Amazon, Erewhon Market in southern California, Sprouts Farmers Market locations nationwide, and Foodland, a HawaiianMiles partner with stores throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

Through the end of April, HawaiianMiles members can also earn one mile per dollar spent on Mananalu products when shopping at any Foodland location.

Hawaiian has made significant investments toward its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives, including a pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 through ongoing fleet modernization, more efficient flying, carbon offsets, and industry advocacy for air traffic control reform and sustainable aviation fuel development. Hawaiian Airlines to offer free, high-speed Starlink internet on its transpacific fleet

Hawaiian Airlines today became the first major airline to announce an agreement with Starlink to provide complimentary high-speed, low-latency broadband internet access to every guest onboard flights between the islands and the continental U.S, Asia and Oceania. Hawai‘i’s largest and longest-serving carrier will equip its Airbus A330 and A321neo aircraft, as well as an incoming fleet of Boeing 787-9s, with Starlink’s industry-leading satellite internet connectivity service.

“When we launch with Starlink we will have the best connectivity experience available in the air,” said Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Peter Ingram. “We waited until technology caught up with our high standards for guest experience, but it will be worth the wait. Our guests can look forward to fast, seamless and free Wi-Fi to complement our award-winning onboard Hawaiian hospitality.”

-“Hawaiian Airlines is ensuring its passengers will experience high-speed internet the way we expect it in the 21st century, making hassles like downloading movies before takeoff a relic of the past,” said SpaceX Vice President of Starlink Commercial Sales Jonathan Hofeller. “With Starlink, the inflight experience is greatly simplified so that once passengers step onboard the plane the internet works seamlessly throughout their flight. Soon, passengers will enjoy all the benefits of having the world’s best inflight internet connectivity from the comfort of their seats.”

In Starlink‘s low-Earth orbit constellation of advanced satellites, the latest of which utilize a revolutionary laser mesh network, Hawaiian found an ideal solution to ensure reliable, high-speed, low-latency connectivity on transpacific flights. Guests will be able to stream content, play games live with friends on the ground, work and collaborate in real-time, plan their Hawai‘i vacation, or share their special island moments on social media. Connecting to the internet will be seamless when guests walk onboard, without registration pages or payment portals.

Hawaiian and Starlink are in the initial stages of implementation and expect to begin installing the product on select aircraft next year. Hawaiian is not currently planning to deploy the service on its Boeing 717 aircraft that operate short flights between the Hawaiian Islands.

Now in its 93rd year of continuous service, Hawaiian is Hawaiʻi's biggest and longest-serving airline. Hawaiian offers approximately 130 daily flights within the Hawaiian Islands, daily nonstop flights between Hawaiʻi and 16 U.S. gateway cities – more than any other airline – as well as service connecting Honolulu and American Samoa, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Tahiti.
