Air Lease Corporation Announces Delivery of New Airbus A320-200neo Aircraft to Atlantic Airways

Air Lease Corporation announced today the delivery of one new Airbus A320-200neo aircraft on long-term lease to Atlantic Airways, the national carrier of the Faroe Islands.  Powered by CFM International LEAP-1A26 engines, this aircraft is the second of two A320-200neos that delivered to the airline from ALC’s order book with Airbus. 

“We are pleased to announce this second A320-200neo delivery to Atlantic Airways today,” said Grant Levy, Executive Vice President of Air Lease Corporation.  “ALC introduced the A320-200neo to Atlantic Airways’ fleet last year and it has greatly enhanced the passenger experience and overall operations of the airline.  We are confident that this second A320neo from ALC will continue to support the national carrier’s excellent operations.”

Atlantic Airways, the Faroe Islands flag carrier, has taken delivery of its first A320neo, MSN8918. Leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC: NYSE: AL), this aircraft is powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines and is configured in an all-economy cabin layout.

With its new Airbus fleet member, Atlantic Airways will further develop its European network. The airline, an Airbus customer since 2008, already operates an all-Airbus fleet of three A320 Family aircraft (currently two A319ceos and one A320ceo). In addition, the airline also recently placed a firm order for two additional A320neos.

Atlantic Airways, the Faroe Islands flag carrier, has signed a Purchase Agreement with Airbus for two A320neo aircraft, becoming the latest A320neo customer. The engine selection will be made at a later date.

With this new order, Atlantic Airways intends to further develop its European network. The airline, an Airbus customer since 2008, already operates a fleet of three A320 Family aircraft.

Featuring the widest single-aisle cabin in the sky, the efficient A320neo Family incorporates the very latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklets, which together deliver more than 20 percent fuel and CO2 savings as well as a 50 percent noise reduction. With more than 6,500 orders received from over 100 customers, the A320neo Family has captured some 60 percent of the market.

KLM signs codeshare agreement with Atlantic Airways

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and flag carrier of the Faroe Islands, Atlantic Airways, announced that they have signed a codeshare agreement. This will expand the global route offering for both companies.

The airlines now offer jointly operated flights to its base on the Faroe Islands. Thanks to the new agreement, KLM and Atlantic Airways customers will have access to more destinations starting 24 January.

KLM will add a KL code to Atlantic Airways flights. This will allow passengers from around the world to change flights in Copenhagen, Billund, Bergen, and Edinburgh and continue their journey on the same ticket and a one-stop check-in to and from the Faroe Islands.

Starting 24 January the cooperation will cover:

Vágar – Copenhagen (CPH)
Vágar – Bergen (BGO)
Vágar – Billund (BLL)
Vágar – Edinburgh (EDI)

Atlantic Airways to get second Airbus A320-200neo



Atlantic Airways of the Faroe Islands is all set to get another Airbus A320-200neo on a long-term lease basis from Air Lease Corporation it has been confirmed this week.

This new deal for the A320-200neo is the second of two A320neo aircraft leased to Atlantic Airways and will be delivered in April 2020. 

“ALC is delighted to announce this second A320-200neo lease placement with Atlantic Airways,” said Steven F. Udvar-Házy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation. “The A320neo will enhance the airline’s fleet operations and exceptional passenger service connecting the Faroe Islands with the world.”

“Atlantic Airways looks very much forward to the lease of the two modern and fuel-efficient Airbus A320-200neo from Air Lease Corporation,” said Jóhanna á Bergi, CEO of Atlantic Airways. “The A320-200neo will increase our seat capacity, enhance passenger experience and Atlantic Airways’ operations as a national carrier, air bridge and lifeline.”

Atlantic is a small local yet international airline that employs around 170 people and operates a current fleet of three aircraft and two helicopters. The airline provides a regular and vital service between the Faroes and a range of cities including Copenhagen, Billund, Aalborg, Bergen, Reykjavik, Edinburgh, Barcelona, Mallorca, Lisbon, Malta and Gran Canaria. In addition, the company’s activities include leasing of aircraft of which half the revenue originate outside of the Faroes. The helicopter department provides a regular service to the outer islands, search-and-rescue activities and offshore transport in the North Atlantic.
