Rome
Delta is the Official Airline of the Acea Run Rome The Marathon 2024, the first time Delta will showcase the brand at this iconic event in one of the world’s most historic cities.

In the run-up to the March 17 marathon, Delta will set up a dedicated “Walk in Stand” at the Expo Village in the Palazzo dei Congressi from March 15-16, where the airline will be showcasing its Delta One cabin and onboard amenities, as well as its partnership with Spotify. As part of the activation, passers-by can add their favorite song to a marathon “Run to the Beat” playlist, which will be part of participating runners’ digital kit and be available on Spotify.

"Delta is proud to sponsor the Rome Marathon for the first time. It’s an iconic event in the annual marathon calendar where runners have the opportunity to step where Roman Emperors and gladiators have stepped before and run with the backdrop of the wondrous attractions of the Eternal City,” said Matteo Curcio, Delta’s Senior Vice President-EMEAI.

The Rome EDITION Redefines Luxury in the Eternal City.......................

Rome is a city filled with masterpieces. From the paintings of Caravaggio and Raphael to the sculptures of Bernini and the films of Federico Fellini – it is the cradle from which all that is best about Italy has emerged. So, the Eternal City was the perfect fit for the opening of the latest EDITION.

Conceived, concepted, and programmed by the visionary entrepreneur, Ian Schrager, executed and interpreted by the hotel owners, Statuto Group, the intimate 91-room Rome EDITION sets a new standard in the Eternal City. Its sophistication, attention to detail, refinement, and high design aesthetic make it set to become a meeting place for Romans and travellers alike. Positioned in one of the most enviable areas of Rome, the hotel is only a few short steps from Via Veneto, the most sought-after street in all of Italy. It was immortalised in La Dolce Vita and embodies Italian flare in all its glory. Not only that – all the major attractions are within easy reach, including the Piazza Barberini, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and the ever-beautiful Borghese Gardens.

Built-in the 1940s and formerly occupied by one of the main Italian banks, the building is a striking example of the rationalist style and was created by Cesare Pascoletti in collaboration with the famed architect Marcello Piacentini. The stunning central staircase of rare cipollino marble from the quarries of Apuane is a testament to their genius. Original features are retained throughout, including the central courtyards and original statues and lamps.

The hotel has three unique bars, a rooftop lounge, bar and pool, a show-kitchen restaurant, a well-appointed urban wellness space with gym and treatment rooms, and a courtyard garden where guests can while away the time sipping their favourite drink or sampling the peerless food menu from adored Roman Chef Paola Colucci, the hotel’s chef partner. The 91 rooms, including 17 suites, have all the design elements the brand is renowned for: the muted tones, the accents of walnut wood and stunning custom-designed furniture.

Aeroporti di Roma has been awarded the title of Best Airport in Europe in 2021 by Airport Council International for the fifth consecutive time.
Startups from all over the world will be able to develop projects and prototypes directly in the terminal buildings, working alongside airport experts and passengers.
Around 100 startups took part in the first Call for Ideas, with 10 selected and a further 3 innovative businesses added by ADR. Most startuppers are under 30.
Project partners include Plug and Play, one of largest early-stage investors in Silicon Valley, PWC and LVenture Group.

"ADR's Innovation Hub marks a new, open approach to the way our Group intends to provide strategic guidance to investees, investing significantly in innovation and sustainability and, above all, providing openings for anyone with ideas, projects and willing to take a risk. Watching young people, from both Italy and other parts of the world, working with their startups at the heart of Fiumicino airport, engaging with passengers and talking to airport experts gives a clear indication of how we can build the future by nurturing new skills and through exposure to a wide range of knowledge and experiences. This is how, by working closely with all our partners, we want to build a new "Made in Italy", making our country more attractive to young talent and creating new jobs through investment and by internationalising our know-how," said the Chairman of Edizione, Alessandro Benetton (look at the video).

BagsID demonstrates innovative baggage capabilities at Aeroporti di Roma

BagsID has announced the successful deployment in the Aeroporti di Roma Innovation Hub incubator programme, created in partnership with LVenture Group. The incubator program, which took place at Rome Fiumicino Airport, provides a platform for innovative startups to demonstrate their ideas and technologies to stakeholders in the aviation industry.

BagsID showcased its new mobile recognition app and its future use for baggage biometrics. The roadmap of the incubator programme for Aeroporti Di Roma, includes mounting frames and cameras for image acquisition in the Baggage Handling System of Rome Fiumicino Airport.

Airport staff were able to use the BagsID app to scan a set of test bags. The revolutionary image recognition technology provided feedback on the bag’s last known location and showed pictures of that exact bag in the Baggage Handling System – proving its unrivalled matching capabilities.

Rome's Ciampino reopens after small fire

The start of a small fire under the arrivals hall caused the closure of Rome’s Ciampino airport earlier today.

The airport popular with low-cost carriers said it closed as a precaution after smoke was seen coming from a basement area.  A spokesperson for  Aeroporti di Roma said "a fire crew put out “the beginnings of a fire,” adding that the arrivals hall was now operating normally.

The airport also said that neither the passengers nor the airport infrastructure had been affected by the fire, the cause of which was still under investigation.

The airport is located around 7.5 miles southeast of the centre of Rome and was closed for approximately 90 minutes. During that time, two departing flights were cancelled and a further six were delayed.   Arrivals were diverted to Romes main scheduled airport Fiumicino during the closure.
