The Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Philanthropies to host second innovation summit in New York City

The Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Philanthropies today announced they will co-host the second Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on September 19, 2023, in New York City with the founder of The Earthshot Prize, Prince William, expected to attend.

Held during New York Climate Week and the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Summit will convene previous Earthshot Prize Winners and Finalists with policymakers, global business leaders, philanthropists, and climate activists to scale their innovative solutions.

At the Summit, The Earthshot Prize will reveal this year’s 15 Finalists and introduce their groundbreaking climate and environmental solutions to repair our planet this decade on one of the biggest international stages.

To help drive meaningful change, and accelerate the collaborations and investments needed to scale those solutions, the Summit will connect the new and previous Earthshot Prize Finalists and Winners with forward-thinking business leaders, philanthropists, and governments already working to regenerate the planet. September’s Summit begins the countdown to The Earthshot Prize’s third annual Awards ceremony in Singapore, where, on November 7, 2023, five of the 15 Finalists will be awarded a catalytic £1 million to scale their cutting-edge solutions.

Alongside Prince William, Michael R. Bloomberg, Global Advisor to the Winners of The Earthshot Prize, will address the assembled guests. Other featured speakers will include policymakers, business leaders, climate innovators, and previous Earthshot Prize Winners and Finalists. The full agenda will be announced in due course.

Jacinda Ardern joins The Earthshot Prize as a Trustee

Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, has joined The Earthshot Prize Board of Trustees.

Her lifelong commitment to sustainable development and climate action aligns powerfully with the optimistic ambition of The Earthshot Prize and its efforts to protect and restore our planet by 2030.
“It is an honour to welcome Jacinda to The Earthshot Prize. Her experience as Prime Minister of New Zealand, will bring a rich infusion of new thinking to our mission,” said Prince William, Founder and President. He added, “Four years ago, before The Earthshot Prize even had a name, Jacinda was one of the first people I spoke to, and her encouragement and advice was crucial to the Prize’s early success. I am hugely grateful to her for joining us as she takes the next steps in her career.”

In September 2022, Ms. Ardern attended The Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in New York where she spoke on behalf of Prince William as he remained in the UK following the passing of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

She offered powerful remarks on the critical need for innovation to positively alter the course of our environmental trajectory and called on political leaders and the private sector to support and invest in solutions.

Jacinda Ardern said:  “I am humbled and excited to be working with the Earthshot team. Since its inception, I’ve believed Earthshot’s power to encourage and spread not only the innovation we desperately need, but also optimism. Solutions are within our reach if we invest, support and accelerate them globally.”

Prince William said:  “The Earth is at a tipping point and we face a stark choice: either we continue as we are and irreparably damage our planet, or we remember our unique power as human beings and our continual ability to lead, innovate and problem-solve.

People can achieve great things. The next ten years present us with one of our greatest tests – a decade of action to repair the Earth.”

The Earthshot Prize Awards this Friday in Boston.

BOSTON 2022
FRIDAY DECEMBER 2ND

In 1962, the Moonshit' was a challenge set by President John F. Kennedy to reach the seemingly impossible goal of landing a man on the moon within ten years.  Inspired by this stunning achievement, Prince William established The Earthshot Prize to uncover and scale the innovative solutions that will repair our planet within the next ten years.

They are partnering with the John F. Kennedy Foundation to bring The Earthshot Prize to Boston, the birthplace of President Kennedy himself, to celebrate not only the 2022 Winners and Finalists but also the city’s own ongoing transformation towards sustainability.

Broadcaster and podcaster Clara Amfo is returning for a second year to co-host the Awards alongside actor, director and producer Daniel Dae Kim.

Clara Amfo said: “What an honour to return for a second time to host The Earthshot Prize awards, this time from America! I was so inspired by last year’s Winners, and I’m looking forward to celebrating and sharing the incredible work of the 2022 Finalists with the world.”

Daniel Dae Kim said: “I’m honoured to be co-hosting this year’s Earthshot Prize. The ground-breaking, innovative work of the 2022 Finalists leaves me inspired and hopeful that we can solve the significant challenges facing us today. Whether it’s taking care of our planet or healing our communities, each of us can and must step up to do our part. Thank you to this year’s Finalists for leading the way.”

The five Earthshot Prize Winners will be announced by a stellar cast including The Princess of Wales, Rami Malek, Catherine O'Hara and Shailene Woodley.

Rami Malek said: “The fifteen Finalists of this year’s Earthshot Prize are deeply inspiring. They are dedicating their lives to building solutions that will repair our planet, and I can’t wait to present an award to one of the incredible Winners for 2022.”

The Awards will feature unforgettable performances from Annie Lennox, Billie Eilish, Chloe and Halle Bailey and Ellie Goulding.

Annie Lennox said: “The urgent need to protect and restore our Earth’s damaged environmental systems is essential for future survival. The objective of The Earthshot Prize is powerful in terms of building a ‘Waste-Free World’ and ‘Reviving Our Oceans.’ I’m therefore honoured to lend my voice in support of this ambitious mission.”

Ellie Goulding said: “I am a big supporter of the Prince of Wales’ passion for the environment and share in The Earthshot Prize’s mission to protect and restore our planet. I am particularly excited for viewers around the world to learn about the innovative solutions presented by this year’s cohort of Finalists.”
