ASL Aviation Holdings Signs Deal with ZeroAvia for Zero Emission Freight Operations

ZeroAvia will scale up its hydrogen-electric propulsion technology, already flight tested in six-seat PAX airframe and currently in advanced R&D for a certifiable 19-seat configuration

ZeroAvia, the leading innovator in hydrogen-electric zero emission powertrains, today announced that it has signed an agreement to partner with ASL Aviation Holdings in developing hydrogen-electric engine conversions for ATR72 aircraft. The project will ultimately include an order with ZeroAvia for converting up to 10 of ASL's owned ATR72 freighter aircraft to hydrogen-electric propulsion, resulting in zero emission cargo operations.

Under the deal, ASL Airlines Ireland will provide a retired ATR72F aircraft for the program development and subsequent use as a demonstrator. ASL will then convert a number of owned aircraft on its freight operations, resulting in the launch of zero-emission hydrogen-electric powered operations for the carrier from 2026 onwards.

ASL Aviation Holdings and ZeroAvia are members of the ASL CargoVision Forum, an initiative to drive innovation and sustainability in the air cargo industry. Working together in this forum, ZeroAvia and ASL aim to use ZeroAvia's new technology to  reduce emissions progressively in the regional sector where connectivity is a critical issue.

First commercial hydrogen-electric flight between London and Rotterdam The Hague Airport expected in 2024

The aviation sector is planning zero-emission commercial passenger flights between Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) and London with a 19-seater aircraft in 2024.

The aircraft, currently under development by ZeroAvia, will fly entirely on hydrogen. ZeroAvia, Royal Schiphol Group, Rotterdam The Hague Innovation Airport Foundation and the airport itself have announced a partnership to realize this ambition today.

The deal sets a solid timeline for the launch of the first zero-emission commercial passenger flights between the UK and the Netherlands, and potentially the first international commercial operation in the world. ZeroAvia and Royal Schiphol Group are in advanced partnership talks with airlines to agree on an operator for the planned route.

ZeroAvia is a leader in zero-emission aviation, focused on hydrogen-electric aviation solutions to address a variety of markets, initially targeting a 500-mile range in 9-19 seat aircraft used for commercial passenger transport, cargo, agriculture, and more.

Through the partnership to deliver this commercial route, ZeroAvia and Royal Schiphol Group will collaborate on testing and demonstrating hydrogen supply chain refuelling operations and integration with airport operations. The two companies will also focus on ensuring the pathway for commercially adopting hydrogen-electric aviation, including establishing the right regulatory framework and understanding industry and public appetite for zero-emissions flight powered by hydrogen.

New air service linking Dallas and Austin with Taos

A new air service will start in December linking both Austin International and Dallas Love Field with the little, yet beautiful town of Taos.

The new air service will start on 20th December and makes a major milestone for both the town of Taos and Taos Regional Airport, as well as having an economic benefit to the region as a whole.  The new charter carrier is called Taos Air and is run in conjunction with Ultimate Jet Charters who will fly a Dornier 328 jet equipped with thirty 30 passenger seats.

The Taos Air launch follows the Taos Regional Airport's opening of its new crosswinds runway last August. "With the new runway in place, we are committed to positioning the Taos Regional Airport as an economic driver for Taos County and Northern New Mexico," said Daniel Barrone, Mayor, Town of Taos.

David Norden, CEO of Taos Ski Valley, one of the major stakeholders in the new air service said: "We're supportive of the Town's vision for the airport as a regional economic driver and premier tourist destination. Taos Air will now offer the closest, fastest and easiest route to the Rockies from Texas, a thrilling development for skiers, snowboarders and outdoor enthusiasts from that region."
