                            Air France remains committed to elevating La Première, its most prestigious class of service. As the airline prepares to introduce its new La Première cabin this winter, it is set to inaugurate an exclusive passenger airport experience this summer, featuring a dedicated check-in lobby and spacious suites. The aim is to offer an even more seamless and completely private journey through Paris-Charles de Gaulle starting in July, perfectly timed with the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where Air France proudly serves as an official partner.

A new dedicated check-in lobby

Upon arrival at the airport, every La Première guest is warmly welcomed by a dedicated concierge who promptly attends to their luggage. Starting this summer, guests will then be guided to a newly established exclusive check-in lobby, marking the initial step in their personalized journey through the airport. Here, an attentive Air France team will manage all departure-related procedures, encompassing check-in and luggage assistance. This area, furnished with 15 seats and two private lounges, ensures enhanced privacy for guests*. The check-in lobby will also cater to La Première passengers arriving at the airport. Customers will have the option to relax post-flight, avail themselves of shower facilities if desired, and retrieve their checked baggage.

Acting as a tranquil haven amidst the bustling airport environment, this lobby embodies French elegance and sophistication. Meticulously crafted by Air France experts in collaboration with the SGK Brandimage agency, its design seamlessly combines individualized spaces while preserving an overall sense of expansiveness. Decorated in a palette of white and gray accented with touches of red, the lobby boasts abundant natural light and showcases exquisite furnishings from renowned French designers such as Pierre Paulin and Christophe Pillet. Every detail, from the precise stitching to the luxurious upholstery, exudes an aura of haute couture.

Once formalities are concluded, each guest will be escorted to the La Première lounge via an exclusive private passage featuring a dedicated security checkpoint. Along this pathway, a series of images portraying the airline's iconic winged seahorse will immerse guests in the distinctive world of La Première, serving as a captivating accompaniment throughout their journey.

An exclusive lounge reserved for La Première passengers

Crafted by architect Didier Lefort, the Air France La Première lounge epitomizes exclusivity, spanning an impressive 1,000 square metres (10,700 square feet). This sanctuary offers guests tranquil retreats, exuding a sense of serenity and the promise of an extraordinary experience. Gastronomy naturally commands the spotlight, featuring a meticulously curated menu and wine selection crafted by Alain Ducasse and his esteemed team. Nestled at the heart of the lounge is a luxurious spa and beauty treatments area, operated by Sisley, the pioneering French brand renowned for its plant-based cosmetology.

New suites connected to the lounge

For the utmost privacy prior to a journey or during layovers, La Première passengers will now have the option to reserve exclusive suites spanning nearly 45 square meters (nearly 500 square feet), conveniently located adjacent to the La Première lounge. Three suites will be available, with the option to adjoin two of them upon request.

Upon arrival in these serene havens, guests will be personally guided through the suite options and amenities by a dedicated butler. Each suite will feature a spacious living area, a bedroom with a double bed, a well-appointed bathroom, and a comfortable outdoor patio. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in a specially curated menu crafted by Alain Ducasse and his team for the La Première lounge, as well as access the renowned Sisley spa. Adorned with fresh flowers, luxurious linens, and haute-couture finishes, the aim is to create a regal atmosphere within Air France's Paris-Charles de Gaulle hub.

In alignment with the architectural style of the check-in lobby and La Première lounge, the suites will embody a variation of privacy pods. Each suite will boast its own distinct character, meticulously curated through thoughtfully designed decor. Air France has meticulously selected iconic examples of French design, including Charlotte Perriand's writing table, Pierre Paulin's Ribbon chair, and Philippe Starck's Privé sofa. Additionally, each suite will feature a unique artwork by a French artist, adding a touch of cultural richness to the luxurious surroundings.

This new private airport journey and access to the La Première lounge are included as part of Air France's La Première service. The airport suites are offered as an option, starting at 800 euros.

Last week Air France confirmed it has signed a partnership agreement with the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 Organising Committee (OCOG). Air France's La Première and Business Cabin passengers will be able to enjoy top quality dishes from Michelin-starred French chef Julien Royer

Since 1 July 2023, on departure from Singapore, chef Julien Royer's new signature dishes are served exclusively in Air France's La Première and Business cabins.

Air France operates 10 weekly flights between Singapore and Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

On departure from Singapore, Air France is renewing its collaboration with the triple Michelin-starred chef Julien Royer, which began in March 2019. Julien Royer is now offering the airline's customers new and totally original dishes for the menus in the La Première and Business cabins. No fewer than 18 culinary creations have been devised by the chef, to be enjoyed progressively over the year.

In both these travel cabins, two of the four dishes, including the vegetarian option, are systematically created by Julien Royer. Gambas "ravioli-style" or a duo of wild rice sautéed with the flavours of South-East Asia in the La Première cabin, poached sea bass with lemongrass or gnocchi glazed in a Kâmpôt pepper sauce in the Business cabin - all these culinary delights are exclusively dedicated to customers travelling from Singapore to Paris. Julien Royer, a native of Auvergne, also works at the triple Michelin-starred Odette and Claudine restaurant in the city-state.

With its in-flight dining offer, Air France is committed to showcasing the quality and diversity of France's gastronomic heritage as part of an increasingly responsible approach, by focusing on fresh, seasonal, and local produce and a systematic choice of vegetarian dish in all travel cabins.

Tourists urged to avoid cities in France as unrest continues.

The entire French tourism industry faces an uncertain future as cancellations flood in over violent unrest of recent days.

Six nights of violent protests across France following the fatal shooting of a teenager by a police officer has already impacted the nation's tourism industry which was rapidly recovering from the covid pandemic crisis.

Many countries around the world have urged their citizens to either take extra care or even completely avoid going to France because of the recent unrest, violence and looting that has erupted not only in the capital Paris but also in many other cities.

The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office updated its travel advice, warning that since 27th June, riots have taken place across France. Many have turned violent. Shops, public buildings and parked cars have been targeted. There may be disruptions to road travel and local transport provision may be reduced. Some local authorities may impose curfews. Locations and timing of riots are unpredictable. You should monitor the media, avoid areas where riots are taking place, check the latest advice with operators when travelling and follow the advice of the authorities.

Whilst not issuing a stronger warning, the FCO did say, that British nationals should reconsider plans to attend big meetings and be aware of their surroundings at all times, and move away quickly from disturbances.

Netherlands Authorities advised, "since June 27, 2023, there have been riots in Paris and other major cities in France, including Toulouse, Lyon and Roubaix. Sometimes cars are set on fire, and fights can also take place between rioters and the French (military) police. In the evening, avoid suburbs of major French cities and follow the local news."  Demonstrations take place regularly, especially in the larger cities. Sometimes violence can occur. Therefore, stay away from these demonstrations, it tells Dutch tourists.

China’s consulate in Marseille has warned tourists to be 'vigilant and exercise caution” after a bus carrying Chinese tourists was attacked with stones and rocks by protesters in the city, with a number being injured. The city has been shocked by the levels of violence on Friday and Saturday nights.

Australia updated its advice, saying that its citizens should exercise a high degree of caution. "Riots have occurred across France which have turned violent, leading to the destruction of property including vehicles, shops, police stations and schools. Clashes with police have occurred, resulting in the use of tear gas and arrests. Be particularly vigilant at night and avoid all demonstrations and areas with significant police activity. Curfews have been introduced in some cities. Public transport may be restricted or cancelled. The situation may change at short notice. Monitor the media and official sources for updates."

In general, the rioters initially targeted public and official buildings, high-end stores like Apple and electrical retailers, however on Friday and Saturday many other stores, including supermarkets and general shops were attacked along with hotels and restaurants.

Rioters, many in masks even rammed a car into the home of Vincent Jeanbrun, the mayor of L'Haÿ-les-Roses,  which is a Paris suburb, not too far from Orly Airport.  The protesters set fire to the house, while Jeanbrun's wife and young children (aged 5 and 7) slept upstairs. Many have commented locally that this was an 'assassination attempt' and condemned the action that left one of the children injured and Mrs Jeanbrun with a suspected broken leg as they tried to flee the attackers who shot fireworks at them.

President Emmanuel Macron cancelled a state visit to Germany that had been scheduled to start on Sunday because of the crisis, the latest in a series of issues to beset his presidency in recent months.

Violence has erupted elsewhere, including in the Swiss border city of Lausanne, where a number of shop windows were smashed, particularly in the Flon district and on rue de Genève on Saturday night, the local police said. Around 50 police officers were deployed to restore order and on a number of occasions, they were required to disperse youths who threw stones and rocks at them. A small number of rioters were arrested during the night the police advised in a statement.

Air France and Airbus acquitted of manslaughter charges over 2009 Rio-Paris crash

Air France and the European plane manufacturer Airbus have been acquitted over the 2009 crash of a Rio-Paris flight AF447, after a French court ruled today that their errors could not be proven as the cause of the crash.

The disaster took the lives of all 228 people onboard the jet and is the worst aviation disaster for the Paris-based airline.

According to France 24, while the ruling was expected after prosecutors recommended to the Paris court not to seek a conviction, it is still a huge blow for families of victims who have waged a 14-year campaign for justice.

In a statement,  Air France said it "takes note of the judgement" and "The company will always remember the memory of the victims of this terrible accident and expresses its deepest sympathy to all of their loved ones."

Air France presents its new spring menu on board its long-haul La Première and Business cabins

From March to June 2023, on departure from Paris, Air France offers a new series of exceptional dishes to be exclusively enjoyed on board its long-haul La Première and Business cabins. The company is teaming up with a high-flying trio of chefs - Mauro Colagreco, Angelo Musa and Régis Marcon – to showcase French haute cuisine on board its flights.

To design these menus, the chefs have worked alongside Servair, a global leader in in-flight catering, to create a selection of dishes, focusing on fresh, seasonal and local produce. As part of its commitment to a more responsible catering offer, the red meat, poultry, milk products and eggs on each menu are of French origin and the fish sourced from sustainable fisheries. A vegetarian dish is also systematically available.

Mauro Colagreco and Angelo Musa in the La Première cabin

For the very first time, the company has entrusted the dishes on the menu of its prestigious La Première suites to Mauro Colagreco, a three-Michelin starred chef and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for biodiversity, based in Menton (France). He has come up with eight tasty dishes that will be revealed gradually from March to June, created by selecting only seasonal produce.

“I was inspired to create these dishes by our region in the south of France, the Alpes Maritimes. There is a whole range of ingredients from the sea, the mountains, citrus fruits and the famous Menton lemons. I would like passengers in the La Première cabin to discover each product and its history so that their meal is a real moment of culinary pleasure suspended in time,” said Mauro Colagreco.

The dishes signed by Mauro Colagreco for the La Première cabin -

  • Comté and onion ravioli with porcini sauce;
  • Asparagus with parmesan cream;
  • Lobster, citrus vinaigrette;
  • Crusted sea bream, royal courgette, shellfish juice and tarragon sauce;
  • Guinea fowl, roasted squash, orange sauce;
  • Roast chicken, yellow courgette fennel kumquat salad, saffron lemon sauce;
  • Lamb roll with pistachio and kumquat confit, green condiments;
  • Rack of lamb, chard stuffed with lamb confit, Provençal sauce.

In terms of desserts, this is also the first time that Angelo Musa, Meilleur Ouvrier de France and World’s Best Pastry Chef, is bringing an elegant and sweet touch to the menus in the La Première cabin worthy of the finest restaurants. For this series, the chef has signed a selection of 4 desserts where balance, delicacy and harmony of flavours meet.

“It’s an immense source of pride to work with Air France and to invite La Première customers to discover my desserts. For me, Air France embodies French excellence, just like my profession” added Angelo Musa.

Air France’s new long-haul cabins take to the skies for the first time!

New York-JFK, Rio de Janeiro and Dakar are the first destinations available this winter.

On 20 January 2023, the first Boeing 777-300 ER equipped with Air France’s latest long-haul cabins will take off from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to New York-JFK. Named “Fontainebleau”, this aircraft will then serve Rio de Janeiro airport in Brazil from 21 January and Dakar in Senegal from 22 January.

The continued refurbishment of the 12 Boeing 777-300 ERs in Air France’s long-haul fleet will enable the airline to gradually offer more flights equipped with these new cabins to these first three destinations during the winter season, and then to expand this network during the year.

Thanks to this new major step in Air France’s move upmarket, all of the company’s long-haul Business cabins will be equipped with seats that transform into full-flat beds by the end of 2023, compared to 90% today. By this date, the entire fleet* will also be equipped with in-flight Wi-Fi, compared to 97% today.

*excluding the regional fleet

In the Business cabin (48 seats), the airline’s completely redesigned iconic seat features even more enveloping curves and extra comfort. This seat’s design is based on the 3 “F”s – Full Flat, meaning that the seat transforms into a real bed almost two metres long, Full Access, providing all passengers direct access to the aisle, and Full Privacy, ensuring optimal privacy. A new sliding door allows passengers to create a totally private space, out of sight from the other passengers in the cabin. To create a greater sense of privacy for passengers travelling together, the seats located in the centre of the cabin are now equipped with a central panel that can be lowered by pressing it down, thus creating a convivial space in which to make the most of the flight together. The seat also features a wide 17.3-inch 4K High-Definition anti-glare screen with a noise-reducing headset, a new Bluetooth connection allowing passengers to use their own headphones and several electric sockets.

As customers board the aircraft, they are greeted by a backlit winged seahorse, embodying the company’s founding myth and rich history. The seat’s padding adds softness and a feeling of cosiness. Wool, brushed aluminium, full-grain French leather are the noble, soft and natural materials chosen by Air France for the manufacture of its seats. Each seat is also embroidered with the company’s trademark red accent.

In the Premium Economy cabin (48 seats), Air France is introducing its latest recliner-type seat model already available on its Airbus A350, while further improving its comfort. Each seat offers 96 cm legroom. The seat cushions have been redesigned and the navy blue herringbone fabric adds further softness. The seat back reclines to 124 degrees and has been widened to provide greater privacy. A new noise-reducing audio headset is integrated into the seat and is easy to use at any time during the flight. The seat also features USB A and C ports.

In the Economy cabin (273 seats), the seats also meet the highest standards of comfort on the market. Each seat has a wide 43 cm seat pan, a 119 degree recline and 79 cm of legroom. The backrest is ergonomically designed, offering reinforced lateral support. It is also equipped with a USB A port.

The seats in these two cabins are equipped with a wide 13.3-inch 4K High-Definition screen with Bluetooth connection, ideal for enjoying over 1,500 hours of on-demand entertainment with personal headphones.

In all cabins, customers have access to the company’s connectivity offer, Air France Connect. The Air France Connect portal offers three passes, including a completely free pass allowing customers to send and receive messages and access information about flight connections.

Air France takes delivery of ‘Angers’, its twentieth A350-900

Air France continues to integrate latest-generation aircraft, with an improved economic and environmental performance, into its fleet.

On 25 November 2022, the airline welcomed its twentieth Airbus A350-900 into its fleet, registration F-HTYT. The aircraft has rolled off the Airbus assembly line in Toulouse and has completed its ferry flight to Paris-Charles de Gaulle, where it will operate on the airline’s long-haul routes.

It will make its first commercial flight on 26 November 2022, flying to Lima (flight AF480).

The front of the fuselage bears the name “Angers”, a tribute to this city in the West of France once home to the kings of France.

Since 2019 and the delivery of its first Airbus A350, Air France has revived the tradition of naming its aircraft after French towns. Before « Angers », Air France named its previous 19 Airbus A350 « Toulouse », « Lyon », « Saint-Denis de la Réunion », « Nice », « Bordeaux », « Marseille », « Reims », « Dijon », « Saint-Malo », « Cannes », « Aubusson », « Pointe-à-Pitre », « Fort-de-France », « Chambord », « Cayenne », « Lille », « Menton », « Deauville » and « Biscarosse ».

In total, the airline has ordered 38 Airbus A350-900s, with deliveries continuing at a steady pace through 2025.

By 2030, latest generation aircraft (Airbus A350s, Boeing 787s, Airbus A220s) will make up 70% of the Air France fleet - compared to 7% today – thanks to an ambitious investment plan of one billion euros per year.

The latest generation of environmentally friendly aircraft

The Airbus A350-900 symbolizes the transition to more sustainable air transport. It consumes 25% less fuel (2.5 litres per passenger per 100 kilometres) than an equivalent-sized, older airliner, thanks to the use of lighter materials: 53% composites and 14% titanium. Its noise footprint is also reduced by 40%.
