Hamad International Airport (DOH) continues to strengthen its position as a global aviation hub, with Q1 2024 marking its busiest quarter yet, surpassing all previous records set in 2023. This quarter saw a remarkable surge in passenger traffic, recording a 27.6% increase, as well as significant growth in aircraft movements by 23.9% and cargo operations by 15.4%.
Hamad International Airport saw a total of 13,171,540 passengers during the first quarter of 2024 – moving 4,533,212 passengers in January, 4,368,710 passengers in February and 4,269,618 passengers in March. Aircraft movements also experienced an increase compared to the previous year, with a total of 69,959 arriving and departing from the airport – 23,996 in January, 22,736 in February and 23,227 in March.
During the first quarter of 2024, Hamad International Airport handled 626,338 tonnes of cargo and moved 10,457,444 bags through its facility, including 7,210,079 transfer baggage, signaling that the airport is seen as a preferred transfer hub for global passengers.
Further enhancing its global connectivity and solidifying its status as a preferred destination for discerning travelers worldwide, the airport has served 188 cargo and passenger destinations and now connects a network of 48 airlines, 44 of which operated in Q1 and an additional 4 airline partners that joined its network since.

Qatar Airways has opened the new Al Mourjan Business Lounge at Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha, named ‘The Garden’ which overlooks ‘The ORCHARD’, surrounded by renowned retailers and restaurants while offering uniquely designed relaxation spaces and areas to socialise.
An exclusive sanctuary available for Qatar Airways Premium Passengers, The Garden stretches over an area of 7,390 square metres and can accommodate up to 707 passengers. It features 24 quiet spaces, each designed to offer optimum relaxation available free of charge for the first six hours, and also features seven spa treatment rooms.
Accessible for passengers travelling in Premium cabin, the new lounge offers a range of premium facilities that fulfil the needs of business, leisure and family travellers with numerous dining options, relaxation rooms, a fitness studio, pedicure & manicure stations, spa facilities, dedicated private spaces, recreational areas and a nursery. The lounge has been influenced by modern aesthetics incorporating natural light in its distinct design, providing passengers with an immersive experience reflecting The ORCHARD below.

The ORCHARD: A tropical masterpiece
HIA's ambitions and futuristic vision can be witnessed within the newly announced ORCHARD – a tropical garden located at the centre of the terminal expansion. The ORCHARD is an indoor tropical garden with a beautiful water feature that will be the focal point for visitors at HIA. With a host of different flora – the ORCHARD includes over 300 trees and over 25,000 plants sourced from sustainable forests from around the world.
An expansive terminal like no other
Consisting of one expansive terminal, the two-time world's best airport will welcome passengers with facilities and services curated for all ages. The expansion now enables travellers to seamlessly transfer from one area to another, exploring the wonders that HIA has to offer with its infused warmth and hospitality.

A second airport hotel and multiple new lounges
As part of the overall expansion, HIA has launched the second airport hotel within its transfer area, the Oryx Garden Hotel. Located in the north plaza, the 100-room hotel focuses on sustainability, with rooms ranging from king to twin, as well as suites strategically located moments away from the boarding gates.
Part of the expansion project are four brand-new lounges for passengers to relax and unwind.
A sustainable destination
With sustainability at the core of HIA's plans, the airport has managed to have four of the expansion projects achieve a 4-star rating under the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) from Gulf Organization for Research & Development (GORD).
With the Phase A of HIA's expansion plans now up and ready, Phase B of the expansion – set to commence in early 2023 – will further increase the capacity to well over 70 million passengers.

Qatar's Gateway achieved 12.44% increase in passenger numbers in 2019 compared to the previous year
Hamad International Airport (HIA) has announced that it has served a record 38,786,422 passengers in 2019, which is the most number of passengers it has served since the start of its operations in 2014, making 2019 HIA's most successful year yet. This also shows a year-on-year growth of 12.44% compared to passenger numbers in 2018.
Eight new passenger destinations were added to HIA's global network in 2019 which were Davao- Philippines, Rabat- Morocco, Izmir-Turkey, Gaborone- Botswana, Langkawi- Malaysia, Mogadishu- Somalia, Malta and Lisbon- Portugal. Three new cargo destinations were also added to HIA's network which are namely Istanbul, New York and Almaty.
Hamad International Airport (HIA) has revealed plans for its second expansion phase which will feature a spectacular 10,000 sqm indoor tropical garden in a central concourse as well as a 268 sqm water feature which will be the focal point of the expansion project.
The second phase of HIA's expansion consists of Phase A and B. Phase A of the current expansion will comprise of the central concourse linking concourses D and E. Construction is to commence by early 2020 and will increase the airport's capacity to more than 53 million passengers annually by 2022. Phase B, which will be completed after 2022, will extend concourses D and E to further enhance the airport's capacity to more than 60 million passengers annually.

Hamad International Airport (HIA) continues to make its mark on redefining the airport experience. The award-winning airport focused its efforts on making travel as dynamic, interactive and entertaining as possible, delivering the biggest 'Summer in Qatar' programme yet. The programme ran from July to August engaging more than seven million passengers.
HIA featured a heritage zone, which engaged passengers through more than 260 hours of cultural and traditional performances including 'Traditional Costume Photo Op' allowing travellers to try on traditional Qatari costumes with Polaroid photos given to the passengers, Qatari traditional dance performances and a calligraphy artist writing passengers' names in traditional Arabic calligraphy. Handicraft activities included a Henna body art activation and a netmaker, Arabic coffee and dates were also distributed.
