Qatar Airways Begins Flights to Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO)

The move sees the debut of the airline’s famous QSuite on the route

DOHA, Qatar - Qatar Airways' first flight to Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) touched down on October 31, 2021. The airline has moved its services to Moscow from Domodedovo Airport to Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) and is now operating its multi-award-winning Qsuite in Business Class on the route.

QSuite is the industry’s first-ever double bed in Business Class, featuring privacy panels that stow away, allowing passengers in adjoining seats to create their own private room, a first of its kind in the industry.

Qatar Airways continues to rebuild its network, which currently stands at over 140 destinations. From October 6, Russia officially entered the green list for travelling to visit Qatar after the Sputnik V vaccine was accepted by the Qatari Ministry of Health.

Sheremetyevo Airport Served 15 million Passengers in the First Seven Months of 2021


Sheremetyevo International Airport has served 15 million people since the beginning of the year, which is which is 33.6% more than for the same period last year. Passenger traffic in July reached 3.633 million people, which is 149.1% more than during the same period in 2020.

Based on the results of performance in July, Sheremetyevo Airport has confirmed its status of the most punctual airport in Europe and the second in the world for the third consecutive month, according to the Global Airports ranking by Cirium aviation agency. The on-time flight punctuality index was 93.99%.

In the first seven months of 2021, the airport performed 124,484 takeoff and landing operations. The number of TLOs in July was 25,484, which was 99.4% more than last year.

There were 3.521 million passengers on international flights in January-July and 11.48 million passengers on domestic flights. Passenger traffic on domestic flights was 1.022 million in July and 2.61 million on domestic flights, and an increase of 8% compared to the same period in 2019.

The most popular international destinations in January-July were Antalya, Istanbul, Yerevan, Male and Bishkek, while the most popular domestic destinations were Sochi, Simferopol, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok.

Aeroflot, Rossiya, Nordwind Airlines, Ikar, Pobeda, Royal Flight and Severstal had the largest volume of passenger traffic in January-July.

Sheremetyevo Airport is among the TOP-5 airport hubs in Europe, the largest Russian airport in terms of passenger and cargo traffic. In 2020, the airport served 19 million 784 thousand passengers.

Sheremetyevo is the best airport in terms of quality of services in Europe, the absolute world leader in punctuality of flights, the recipient of the highest 5-star Skytrax rating.

Rossiya Airline Begins Flights to Egyptian Resorts from Sheremetyevo

Rossiya Airlines, part of the Aeroflot Group, in partnership with the largest tour operator Biblio-Globus, has resumed scheduled flights to popular Egyptian resorts from Sheremetyevo International Airport.

Flights from Moscow to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh will operate five times a week - on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays on Boeing 747 aircraft designed to carry 522 passengers: 12 in business class and 510 in economy class.

The first flights to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh departed on schedule from Sheremetyevo's Terminal D on August 9.

Departure time to Hurghada is 08:55 with arrival at the resort airport at 12:50 local time. Return flights will depart Hurghada at 14:50 and arrive in Moscow at 20:35. Flights to Sharm el-Sheikh will depart at 10:30 and arrive at 14:25. Return flights will depart at 16:25 and arrive in Moscow at 22:10.

"Tourism has always been one of the main areas of cooperation between Russia and Egypt. The resumption of scheduled service to the Red Sea resorts is a long-awaited event for many of our citizens who prefer hot climates for recreation or are fond of diving," said Sergey Starikov, the official representative of Rossiya Airline. "Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh will become an organic addition to the traditional cities of the Black Sea coast. All flights are performed in compliance with high standards of aviation and epidemiological safety."

Sheremetyevo Is Now the Busiest and Most Punctual Airport in Europe

Sheremetyevo International Airport became the busiest airport in Europe in terms of passenger traffic for the first time in its history in June, according to research conducted by the analytical portal airserviceone.com. 

Effective cooperation between the airport, airlines and handling operator has allowed for produced a speedy recovery of air traffic while ensuring punctuality of flight departures. Sheremetyevo was the first airport in Russia to develop and implement a system of joint decision-making with airlines, which has produced prompt delivery of services, short turnaround time for aircraft, minimized taxiing time and reduced costs for airlines.


Sheremetyevo also retained its status as the most punctual airport on the continent and the second-most punctual in the world in the Global Airports category for the second consecutive month, according to the Cirium aviation agency. The punctuality index for departures in June was 94.12%.

Sheremetyevo served 2.98 million passengers in June, exceeding the level of June 2020 by 378.4%. June passenger traffic on domestic airlines exceeded that of June 2019 by 8%.


At the end of 2020, Sheremetyevo was recognized by the ASQ research program of the Airports Council International (ACI) as the best among the largest airports in Europe (more than 40 million passengers annually) in quality of services. Sheremetyevo maintains its leadership in this category for the third consecutive year.

11.4 Million passengers travelled through Sheremetyevo International Airport in the first half of the year


Sheremetyevo International Airport served 11,369,000 people in the first six months of 2021, an increase of 16.4% over the same period in 2020. Passenger traffic in June reached 2,980,000, an increase of 378.4% over the corresponding period in 2020.

Travellers on international flights numbered 2,499,000, about 22% of the passenger traffic, while domestic passengers numbered 8,870,000, or 78%. Passenger traffic in June totalled 2,980,000, of which 654,000 were on international flights and 2,326,000 were on domestic flights.

A total of 99,000 takeoff and landing operations were performed in the same six-month period, including 22,840 in June, an increase of 166.9 percent over June 2020.

The intensity of air traffic at Sheremetyevo Airport has been steadily increasing with the resumption of regular flights between Russia and a number of other countries, as well as the opening of new tourist destinations and the easing of restrictions for persons entering Russia,

The most popular international destinations in January-June of the current year were Istanbul, Male, Dubai, Yerevan, Antalya, and domestic - Sochi, Simferopol, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Krasnodar.

Aeroflot, Rossiya, Nordwind Airlines, Ikar, Pobeda, Royal Flight and Severstal made the largest contribution to Sheremetyevo's passenger traffic in the six-month period.

Aeroflot launches international flights from the Terminal C at Sheremetyevo International Airport





Earlier this week the leading Russian carrier, Aeroflot began full operation of its international flights from Terminal C at Sheremetyevo International Airport.

Aeroflot's decision to begin flights from the new Terminal C was driven by the increasing need for terminal capacity due to passenger demand and the start of flights to several countries.

A ceremony inaugurating the service was held with the participation of Russian Transportation Minister Vsevolod Saveliev, Director General and Chairman of the Management Board of PJSC Aeroflot Mikhail Poluboyarinov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC Sheremetyevo Alexander Ponomarenko and Director General of JSC Sheremetyevo Mikhail Vasilenko.

Minister of Transportation of Russia V. Saveliev officially opened passenger check-in for flight SU2134 to Istanbul and noted the importance of the resumption of operations in Terminal C for the whole transport industry.

"It has by now become a pleasant tradition to come to Sheremetyevo for the opening of infrastructure facilities that you successfully implement," he said. "Exactly six months ago, we participated in the opening of the third runway, and today the airport can accept up to 110 million passengers per year. Today we resume international flights from the modern Terminal C. It's nice that we can afford these important and large-scale projects and compete with the global airports in Europe, America and Asia."

M.M. Vasilenko, Director General of SVO JSC, said, "Our most important task is to ensure the efficient operation and long-term development of our strategic partner Aeroflot and the Group's airlines. The operation of all Aeroflot's international flights from the ultramodern Terminal C, with its infrastructure, technology and extensive service capabilities, will ensure the highest quality of service for all categories of passengers."

8.4 million passengers passed through Sheremetyevo Airport during the first five months of the year


Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport saw 8.389 million passengers pass through its doors in the first five months of 2021.  Passenger traffic reached 2.214 million in May alone, an increase of 875% over May 2020.

There were 76,160 takeoff and landing operations (TLO) in the five-months period, and 19,666 TLOs in May.

At the end of May 2021, Sheremetyevo Airport was recognized as the most punctual airport in Europe and the second most punctual airport in the world in the Global Airports category according to the Cirium Aviation Agency rating. Sheremetyevo's departure punctuality rate was 96.10%.

For five months of the year, 1.845 million passengers were served on international airlines (IAL) and 6.544 million passengers were served on domestic airlines (DAL). Domestic traffic was 40% higher than in the same period in 2020.

The largest increase in passenger traffic from January to May 2021 compared to the same period in 2020 was Sochi, Simferopol, Kaliningrad, Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. Passenger traffic in May reached 497,000 on international airlines and 1.717 million on domestic carriers.

The most popular international destinations in the first five months of the year were Istanbul, Male, Dubai, Bishkek and Antalya. The most popular domestic destinations were Sochi, St. Petersburg, Simferopol, Yekaterinburg and Krasnodar.

Pobeda Airlines began operating flights from Sheremetyevo Airport to Perm, Makhachkala and Cheboksary in May.

The largest contribution to Sheremetyevo's passenger traffic in the first five months of 2021 was made by Aeroflot, Rossiya, Nordwind Airlines, Ikar, Royal Flight and Severstal.

Pobeda began operating flights from Sheremetyevo as part of the Aeroflot Group's strategy to optimize the Group's route network and fleet, taking into account the high demand for low-cost travel.

Moscow Cargo presents solutions at the TransRussia 2021 Exhibition



Moscow Cargo, the cargo operator at Sheremetyevo International Airport, gave a presentation on changes in the air transport market at the TransRussia International Exhibition of Transportation and Logistics Services, Warehouse Equipment and Technologies, which took place on April 12-14.

The event gathers professionals in cargo shipping and freight forwarding, thermal handling in air and seaports, integrated logistics services and customs clearance, and warehouse solutions.

The significant changes in global logistics over the past year, and the need to discuss key issues and tasks of the industry in the format of live communication, explain the increased interest of the audience in the business program of the event.

Sheremetyevo looking to welcome more people with the introduction of the spring/summer schedule.

Sheremetyevo International Airport switched to the spring-summer flight schedule on March 28 and will remain on this schedule until October 30.

During the summer navigation period, airlines operating at Sheremetyevo are expected to increase the number of flights to popular tourist and business destinations and expand their route networks. Airlines plan to operate regular flights from Sheremetyevo on 90 routes (66 domestic and 24 international)* during the summer season. 

In the upcoming spring-summer season, Aeroflot will operate flights on 69 routes, including 47 destinations in Russia and 22 in the CIS and non-CIS countries.

During the summer navigation period, Aeroflot will increase the frequency of flights to domestic resort destinations such as Sochi, Simferopol and Anapa as well as the number of flights to Russian cities of St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don and Kazan. In the spring-summer season, Aeroflot is expanding its program on routes to Istanbul and Antalya. The number of regular flights to London will increase compared to the winter schedule, and the airline plans to open flights from Sheremetyevo to the Seychelles Islands. The carrier's domestic route network will have additional flights to Gelendzhik and Magas.

Airports Council International names Sheremetyevo Airport Best Large Airport in Europe for Service Quality in 2020


Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport was recognized as the best airport for service quality in 2020 among airports with 2019 passenger traffic of more than 40 million by the Airports Council International's (ACI) global program for researching the level of service at airports Airport Service Quality (ASQ). 

Sheremetyevo Airport has been recognized consistently since 2012 as one of the best airports in Europe in terms of service quality. At the end of 2020, Sheremetyevo topped the rating in the category of the largest airports in Europe for the third time. At the same time, this year Sheremetyevo was included in the list of the Voice of the Customer of the Airports Council International – the 140 most active airports in the implementation of the ASQ ACI program during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moscow Cargo Terminal at Sheremetyevo International Airport gets green light from European regulators.

It has been confirmed that Moscow Cargo LLC has been issued the RA3 certificate by the German National Civil Aviation Administration (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt), which inspects and certifies airports and airlines on behalf of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The RA3 certificate (Regulated Agent Third Country) confirms that the terminal of Moscow Cargo LLC fully complies with all aviation security requirements established by the European Union for cargo and mail destined for or travelling through the EU countries from the territory of non-EU countries (Implementing Regulation (EU ) 2015/1998).

Moscow Cargo's registration number is RU / RA3 / 00005-01.

Sheremetyevo Airport's key role in pandemic response



Sheremetyevo has been the Russian Federation's main airport serving flights from epidemiologically unfavorable countries during the COVID-19 pandemic and adopted critical services to protect passengers and employees. The airport summed up its activities for the period on the eve of Civil Aviation Day in the Russian Federation.

Despite global anti-epidemic restrictions and a significant decrease in passenger traffic during 2020, the airport quickly adapted to work in the new realities and confirmed its status as one of the most important passenger and cargo hubs in Russia and Europe.

"Although 2020 brought many challenges, particularly for the aviation industry, Sheremetyevo nimbly responded to the adversity. We successfully implemented many changes to protect passengers and employees and to ensure the health of all who passed through the airport, and are pleased to be at the forefront of the vaccination efforts domestically and abroad," stated Sheremetyevo's Chairman of the Board of Directors Alexander Ponomarenko.

Moscow Cargo Shares Experience in Shipping COVID-19 Vaccines at International Aviation Conference

The SVO JSC cargo operator Moscow Cargo LLC shared insights into the special challenges of handling and delivering the COVID-19 vaccines at an online seminar sponsored by the Intergovernmental Council for Aviation and Airspace Use (IAC and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The online seminar, Preparation and Implementation of a Plan for the Coronavirus Vaccines Air Distribution, was held on February 1-2 at the headquarters of the IAC and was part of the ongoing ICAO-IAC project titled Improving Flight Safety and Maintaining Airworthiness in the State-Parties to the Agreement.

The seminar brought together participants logistics and supply-chain experts from several countries, including specialists from cargo and passenger airlines and top managers of cargo terminals and airports, as well as representatives of IATA, ICAO and government civil aviation regulators.

Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport opens reconstructed runway one and makes first Sputnik V vaccine delivery to Argentina

Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow has commissioned its newly reconstructed runway one (Runway-1).  The ceremony took place on December 24th with a special parade of airfield equipment and welcomed into action by numerous government, airport and airline dignitaries.

Runway-1, features two new high-speed-exit taxiways, the capacity of Sheremetyevo airfield's three runways will increase to 110 million passengers per year.  

"We were able to do the reconstruction of Runway-1, which is an important stage in the development of the airfield complex thanks to the current concession agreement between the government, represented by Rosaviatsia, and Sheremetyevo airport," said Alexander Ponomarenko. "As a result, today we have three runways, which, together with the development of terminal capacity and in the context of normalizing passenger traffic volume, provide an opportunity to achieve our strategic goal: serving 110 million passengers per year."

Moscow's Sheremetyevo Served 18.5 Million Passengers in First 11 Months of 2020

                             
Sheremetyevo International Airport served 18,508,000 people during the first 11 months of 2020. Passenger traffic on international airlines totalled 6,123,385 with domestic carriers accounting for 12,385,000.

According to Airports Council International's (ACI) operating results for European airports, Sheremetyevo was fourth among airports in Europe for the month of October in terms of passenger traffic, with 1.776 million passengers. Sheremetyevo's 17,382,000 passengers in the first 10 months of 2020 ranked fifth among European airports, according to ACI.

In November 2020, Sheremetyevo served 1.126 million passengers, 224,000 on international carriers and 902,000 on domestic airlines.

Special handling at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport enables shipment of Sputnik V Vaccine from Moscow to Serbia

Sheremetyevo International Airport was the launching point for the shipment of an early batch of Sputnik V, the Russian vaccine against coronavirus COVID-19 and the first vaccine developed in the world, from Moscow to Serbia this week.

Serbian experts will decide on the use of the vaccine in the country after clinical trials at the Torlak Public Health Institute.

Prototypes of the most anticipated drug in the world—20 doses—were sent on December 3 at 10:45 am on Aeroflot flight SU2090 to Belgrade with the support of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

Despite the coronavirus pandemic 15.6 Million passengers travel through Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport during the first nine months of the year

Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport served 15,606,000 people from January through September of 2020. There were 145,368 take-off and landing operations in the same nine-month period, showing the airport, still managed to remain relatively busy despite the global slowdown of aviation due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The largest contributors to the growth of Sheremetyevo's passenger traffic in this period were Aeroflot, Nordwind Airlines, Rossiya, Ikar, Royal Flight and Air France.

Sheremetyevo's passenger traffic in the third quarter was 476% higher than in the second quarter, totaling 5.837 million people. This growth was due to the high demand for flights to popular Russian domestic resort destinations, as well as the partial resumption of regular international flights, including popular tourist destinations in Turkey.

The number of passengers served on domestic airlines reached 4.967 million, an increase of 424% over the second quarter. Growth was due mostly to an increase in demand for flights to Sochi, Simferopol and Anapa. In the third quarter, passenger traffic on international airlines amounted to 869,930 people, which is 1,225% more than in the second quarter. The greatest demand was for flights to destinations such as Antalya, Istanbul and London.

The airport served 2.156 million passengers in the month of September, when there were 15,878 take-off and landing operations.

Sheremetyevo Airport Executives Included in the Kommersant Rating of Best Managers in the Country

Three senior executives of Sheremetyevo International Airport have been named to Kommersant's 21st annual list of the Top-1000 Russian Managers. The list was developed by Kommersant Publishing House, which engaged the Association of Managers to make the selections. 

Alexander Ponomarenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC SIA, was named as one of the 46 top business leaders of Russia. Director General of JSC SIA Mikhail Vasilenko was ranked first among top managers in the transport category, and Public Relations Director Anna Zakharenkova was ranked second among directors of public and corporate relations in the transport sector.

Sheremetyevo Airport and Rossiya Airlines Launch Russia's Newest Aircraft Maintenance Complex

Sheremetyevo International Airport inaugurated its new hangar complex for aviation service and maintenance of Aeroflot Group aircraft yesterday, September 15th.

The construction of the hangar complex was completed in just 12 months, a record time for such a complex technical facilities of this kind in Russia, and JSC SIA invested more than $ 57 million in the project.

Alexander Ponomarenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheremetyevo International Airport stated, "We are pleased to open the new hangar complex for the Aeroflot Group today. The new hangar will enable servicing aircraft at Sheremetyevo and help to increase safety and optimize operation of our airline partners."
