The Boeing 737-800, was operating a flight between Kunming Changshui International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on Monday morning when it rapidly lost altitude and crashed into the side of a mountain.  The crash then set fire to the bamboo forest which has hampered site investigations.

A Boeing spokesperson said: "We are aware of the initial media reports and are working to gather more information." The firm more recently said "Our thoughts are with the passengers and crew of China Eastern Airlines Flight MU 5735. We are working with our airline customer and are ready to support them."

According to initial reports, flight MU5735 had been flying at 523mph / 455 knots at approximately 30,000 at around 14:19 when it suddenly dropped in altitude at an alarmingly fast rate before data transmitted by the plane ended just over two minutes later.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said he was 'shocked' by the crash and ordered an “all-out effort” for the rescue operation, he also stated that a full investigation into the crash and to ensure complete civil aviation safety would report as soon as possible.

“We look forward to gathering the aviation industry in Shanghai for the 78th IATA AGM. China Eastern Airlines Released New Loyalty Program Globally!

On September 26th, China Eastern Airlines held the "New Value, New Experience, New Pleasure—China Eastern Airlines New Loyalty Program" press conference in Shanghai Tower. The "Eastern Miles" membership system globally released features these five highlights as a brand-new membership upgrade, a brand-new points accumulation system, a brand-new point exchange method, a brand-new product series and a brand-new service platform.

The core of the new membership system lies in the points accumulation framework transition from "mileage-based" to "revenue-based" system, by which we are dedicated to creating a brand new customer-centered service platform and making it possible for more cross-border and cross-industry partners to enter the value chain of the aviation.

The new membership system has made sweet adjustments in the member points and the validity of points, covering issues that travellers are most concerned about. In the new "revenue-based" system, the member points will be associated with the flight ticket fare, and the mileage points can be calculated by matching with the member grade coefficient. For passengers, the number and distance of flights are no longer the only ways to realize the renewal and upgrade of membership. The period of validity will be extended from the original 3 years to long-term "rolling effective", and it will be invalid and cleared only after being dormant consecutively for more than 36 months. During this period, as long as the members of "Eastern Miles" accumulate their points by their travel, or use them for redemption and consumption, they can ensure that their points are always valid, not fearing of "clearing by the expiration".

In recent years, China Eastern Airlines has brought enormous surprises to the public and its members in aviation product innovations, such as the "Fly At Will" from last year. Relying on big data mining and analysis, China Eastern Airlines has been studying the travel habits of passengers, and making constant efforts in hope of enriching the travel scenes and providing more accurate services. With the appearance of the New Loyalty Program, more and more good news about the travel experience are coming. For travelers, high-speed Wi-fi in the air and the newly upgraded on-board dining are really something to look forward to. As members of SKYTEAM, the members of China Eastern Airlines can enjoy premium service of 19 member airlines.

Airbus has delivered the first A350 from its widebody completion & delivery centre in Tianjin (C&DC), China, taking additional steps in the expansion of its global footprint and long-term strategic partnership with China.

The A350-900 aircraft was delivered to China Eastern Airlines, the largest Airbus operator in Asia and second largest in the world. At the end of June 2021, China Eastern Airlines operated an Airbus fleet of 413 aircraft, including 349 A320 Family aircraft, 55 A330 Family aircraft and nine A350 aircraft.

Located at the same site as the Airbus Tianjin A320 Family Final Assembly Line and the Airbus Tianjin Delivery Centre, the widebody C&DC covers the aircraft completion activities, including cabin installation, aircraft painting and production flight test, as well as customer flight acceptance and aircraft delivery.

The centre was inaugurated in September 2017 with its capability on A330s. Then, during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to China in 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding on the Further Development of Industrial Cooperation was signed in Beijing by He Lifeng, Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China, and Guillaume Faury, Airbus Chief Executive Officer, announcing the C&DC would extend its capability to A350 aircraft.

The A350 features the latest aerodynamic design, a carbon-fibre fuselage and wings, plus new fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce engines. Together, these features translate into unrivalled levels of operational efficiency with a 25 per cent reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions. The A350’s ‘Airspace by Airbus’ cabin is the quietest of any widebody aircraft and offers passengers and crews the most modern in-flight products for the most comfortable flying experience.

At the end of June 2021, the A350 Family had received 915 firm orders from 49 customers worldwide, making it one of the most successful widebody aircraft ever.

Medical experts work with China Eastern Airlines to create "Protective Walls" - first aid during flights

Wang Ren, an orthopaedic doctor, rescued a male passenger with history of palpitation. The passenger suffered from chest tightness, shortness of breath, and dyspnea on board on the flight MU2259 from Guangzhou to Xi'an on May 1.

Surgeon Le Fei has also helped passengers on flights. He helped a girl with acute fever and a French woman who lost consciousness after takeoff on two international flights respectively in 2017.

For both Wang Ren and Le Fei, their other identity is actually "air medical expert." According to the statistics data of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), more than 20 medical cases occur per million flights in the world, some of which even endanger the lives of passengers. "Air medical experts" can assist crew members of China Eastern Airlines to strive for "golden time" for first aid in case of emergency medical treatment.

China Eastern Airlines makes great leaps in reducing carbon emissions and pursuing sustainable development

China Eastern Airlines has saved more than 600,000 tons of fuel oil and reduced about two million tons of carbon emissions in 2020, thanks to its efforts to improve operation efficiency and promote green development in recent years, according to the company’s latest corporate social responsibility (CSR) report.

Last year, the airline introduced more than 1,000 new-energy vehicles for ground services and actively took part in market-based mechanisms for reducing carbon emissions and international affairs concerning global climate governance, extending its environmental protection efforts to various links in air and ground services.

As China marches towards its goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060, China Eastern is also ramping up efforts to shoulder its responsibility and play an active role in promoting the reduction of carbon emissions and push forward with sustainable development.
