Cayman Airways gets new Boeing 737 MAX

Air Lease Corporation has entered a long term lease arrangement for a new Boeing 737 MAX 8 jet with Cayman Airways.


Leasing giant Air Lease Corporation has confirmed the delivery of one new Boeing 737-8 aircraft on long-term lease to Cayman Airways.  This aircraft, featuring LEAP-1B27 engines, is the third new 737-8 to deliver to Cayman Airways from ALC’s order book with Boeing.  

“ALC is honored to work with Cayman Airways, the national flag carrier of the Cayman Islands, to modernize the airline’s fleet and expand their route network,” said Steven F. Udvar-Házy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation.  “Our team has now leased three generations of Boeing 737 aircraft to Cayman Airways: the 737-300, 737-800 and now the 737-8.  The new technology 737-8s will further the airline’s long-term goals, providing advanced technology, passenger comfort and fuel-efficiency.”

Cayman Airways President and Chief Executive Officer, Fabian Whorms said: “We are very fortunate and appreciative of having ALC as our aircraft lessor while we retire and replace our aging B737-300 aircraft with the new B737-8 aircraft model.  ALC was selected by Cayman Airways in 2016 after a competitive public tendering process and ALC has subsequently demonstrated a very strong commitment to working with Cayman Airways through the most difficult of industry challenges.  Cayman Airways also has a historical relationship working with Mr. Udvar-Hazy that spans more than three decades, and we look forward to continued excellent relations with ALC for many years to come.”

Boeing & Air Lease Corp deliver first 737 Max to Cayman Airways

The US planemaker, Boeing and leasing specialist Air Lease Corporation delivered the first 737 MAX 8 for Cayman Airways on Thursday, November 29th, which is the first 737 MAX to enter service in the Caribbean.

The new arrival marks the beginning of the airline's plans to modernise its fleet and expand its network. "Cayman Airways is able to achieve the highest levels of efficiency with the 737 MAX 8, along with unparallelled levels of reliability and comfort," said Cayman Airways President and CEO Fabian Whorms. "In addition, the MAX's incredible range opens up the potential for several new markets within the Americas.". Cayman Airways plans to take delivery of four MAX 8 aeroplanes to replace its fleet of 737 Classics.

Cayman Airways to launch its longest passenger flight next year.

Cayman Airways will introdeuce its longest scheduled route ever next year when it starts a service Grand Cayman and Denver, Colorado.

The long route for the airline is only possible thanks to the new arrival of the first of four Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft the airline has ordered.  The service starts on 2nd March 2019.

President and CEO of Cayman Airways, Fabian Whorms, said, “The new Denver nonstop service will reduce the travel time to Cayman from typically between nine and eleven hours using multiple flights, to less than five hours aboard a direct flight on our brand new state-of-the-art Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft with industry-leading comfort and legroom in both our Business and Economy cabins, combined with our renown Caymankind in-flight experience, which includes free Rum Punch. We look forward to welcoming new and returning visitors from the Mile High City with our special introductory roundtrip airfares starting from US$396 plus taxes.”
