Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, said: “This is a very exciting time for Wizz Air in the UK, as we celebrate the opening of our highly anticipated base at Cardiff Airport. By bringing our new and efficient Airbus aircraft to Cardiff, the wings of which are manufactured in Wales, we are providing a significant boost to the Welsh economy and creating jobs. The base, which is our fourth in the UK, will bring further connectivity to the region, with passengers in Wales and the South West of England now able to take advantage of our ultra-low fares to “fly local” to their favourite getaways. Massive route expansion at London Gatwick by Wizz Air.

The European budget airline Wizz Air will be conducting a massive expansion from London Gatwick Airport after acquiring 15 daily slot pairs from Norwegian Air Shuttle.  The special deal will see the company that was greatly aided by government bailouts during the height of the coronavirus basing 4 more Airbus A321neo aircraft at the Sussex airport. View inside one of the aircraft below.

Since the opening of its base at Gatwick Airport in October 2020, Wizz Air has offered a wealth of both well-known and emerging destinations for its customers based in London and the South of England, as well as a boost to the local economy by creating local jobs. The successful bid for more slots reiterates Wizz Air’s long-term commitment to both the airport and the region.

Wizz Air’s Group Chief Executive Officer, József Váradi commented: “This announcement is further evidence of our commitment to London Gatwick Airport as well as the UK market, as we continue to create local jobs and deliver our promise of providing low-fare travel opportunities with excellent service to an ever-increasing range of exciting destinations, while flying one of the greenest aircraft fleets available on the market today. Acquiring airport slots at Gatwick Airport will enable us to enhance our presence and competitive position in the London market. We continue to develop our business in United Kingdom and remain committed to making air travel affordable for all. The 2022 season has the potential to be a tremendous opportunity for UK aviation to get back on its feet."

Passengers concerned about increasing airfares if airport slot rules for next summer remain the same

More than half (56%) of people surveyed who are planning to fly in the next 12 months are concerned about airfares increasing if airport slot rules remain the same, according to a YouGov survey commissioned by Gatwick Airport and Wizz Air.

More than a quarter (28%) of these people surveyed also said they are concerned about a reduction in the number of destinations they can choose to fly to, and 24% are worried about a reduction in the number of airlines they can fly with, if airport slot rules remain the same.

Airport slot rules ensure that UK consumers benefit from effective choice of destination and airline - and fair pricing - by ensuring that the aviation market is competitive. They do this by incentivising airlines to fly – and if not - trade or hand back unused airport slots so that other airlines can fly them instead, including new market entrants.

The UK’s slot regulations were understandably suspended during the pandemic; however, Gatwick and Wizz Air are calling for them to be urgently reinstated for Summer 2022 now that passenger numbers are expected to rise significantly - following successful vaccination campaigns and the removal of many travel restrictions.

Transnistria has its own currency and flag and is often visited by so-called "country hunters.

This route is offered until mid-September. Located on the Black Sea, Burgas is Bulgaria's fourth largest city and the country's largest port. Burgas is a true gateway for thousands of tourists who spend their vacations on the Black Sea every year. The city is thus also interesting for the forty thousand Bulgarians who live in the Netherlands and like to spend their vacations in their home country. In addition, the destination is attractive for travelers visiting family and/or friends. The city-which plays an important role in Bulgaria's oil industry-can also be interesting for business travelers since the port city acts as a gateway from Eastern Europe to Western Europe.
