Wizz Air CEO sends message to customers

József Váradi the CEO of Wizz Air has writen an email and sent it to all passengers regarding the carriers unprecedented growth during the corona crisis.  The airline has also recently opened a sister company to take the Wizz low-cost model to the United Arab Emirates with Wizz AirAbu Dhabi.

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during these unfortunate times.

I’m writing to you to share my gratitude for your continuous support and give you an overview of the past few months, as well as share my expectations for the future.

Together with the WIZZ team, we’ve been working hard to make sure you can travel to meet and spend time with those who matter the most. In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, we never ceased our operations, and have organized over 50 repatriation flights as well as over 120 cargo flights carrying critical medical supplies to Europe.

As the wellbeing of our people and passengers is our foremost priority, we were the first airline to introduce enhanced health and safety measures, ensuring the highest level of onboard safety to this day. We recently brought our operations under the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as our single safety oversight authority, becoming the first airline with an EASA Air Operator Certificate.

From the very beginning, we chose to see COVID-19 as an opportunity for growth, rather than a cause for collapse. As such, we opened 15 new bases, launched over 280 new routes and enacted a huge expansion in the UK, Italy and Norway. The latter achievement includes the opening of new bases in Doncaster Sheffield, London Gatwick, Cardiff, Milan, Catania, Bari, Oslo and Trondheim, alongside the launch of a handful of domestic routes for the first time.

We’re also proud to be launching Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, a new joint venture between ADQ and Wizz Air Group. With an initial fleet of four state-of-the-art A321neo, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi will be the first ultra-low-cost carrier in the region.

Over the last few months, we’ve proven to be the most resilient airline, and this wouldn’t have been possible without our people, without you, our customers, and the WIZZ Team. We are dreamers, and we believe in the world of opportunities, even during the darkest of times. I believe our performance through the unprecedented challenges of this year makes Wizz Air's selection as the 2020 Air Transport World Airline of the Year even more deserved. We’re proud to say that our airline is the first ultra-low-cost carrier to win the award in its 46-year history.

Looking ahead, the entire WIZZ team and I would like to express our immense gratitude for your continuous support and trust. This is what gives us the motivation to work tirelessly to ensure we continue offering excellent service, even during these difficult times. We look forward to overcoming this pandemic together and bringing more and more opportunities and destinations to explore to you and your loved ones.

And finally, as we approach the festive season, let me extend my warmest wishes to you and your families this holiday season!

Our WIZZ team is looking forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Stay safe, stay healthy.
