Condor to sell overhead locker space.......

Photo Condor
Photo Condor
The German holiday airline Condor is introducing a new way to grab more money from its passengers by selling them space....  On selected flights, Condor passengers in Economy Class will have the option to reserve their own overhead compartment. From 9.99 euros, this guarantees sufficient storage space for the hand baggage included in the fare booked. The service will initially be available on long-haul flights operated with a Condor A330-200. This will apply to departures from 1 November 2022.

Ralf Teckentrup, CEO of Condor: "Many travellers are familiar with this situation: you are sitting at the gate, boarding begins and you wonder whether your hand baggage will still find a place in the overhead compartment. Condor guests can now relax and simply reserve their own baggage compartment online in advance - ideally directly in combination with a seat. This makes flying even more relaxed."

A reservation can be made up to 48 hours before the scheduled departure at www.condor.com under "My Booking" and up to three hours before departure at online check-in. One baggage compartment can be reserved per passenger. On board, the baggage compartments reserved in this way are marked accordingly.

How this will affect other passengers is unclear, however, it is likely to cause delays in boarding according to passenger services managers.

Condor's A330-200 takes off on long-haul routes.....

This week the Condor A330-200 with the registration D-AIYC took off on its first long-haul flight. The aircraft took off around 3.15 p.m. from Frankfurt Airport to North America. From now on, Germany's most popular holiday carrier will operate three A330-200 aircraft on long-haul flights to Seattle, Toronto and Punta Cana, which are expected to be in service with Condor for two years before being replaced by the A330neo. The aircraft, identified as D-AIYB, D-AIYC and D-AIYD, will also be deployed to Palma de Mallorca.

Unlike the cabin of the new A330neo, which will operate in a three-class configuration, guests aboard the A330-200 can expect a two-class configuration. The 22 Business Class seats offer comfortable seats that can be converted into a full lie-flat area via a control panel. In Economy Class, each of the 240 seats has a monitor as well as a USB port and a power socket, so that guests can also charge their mobile devices on board at any time. Inflight entertainment will also be available onboard from June. Until then, all guests can alternatively stream free of charge via the Condor FlyStream WLAN in-flight entertainment programme. Guests who wish to enjoy in-flight entertainment during their flight in May are therefore advised to take a mobile device for streaming on board.

Last summer, Condor announced the order of 16 long-haul A330-900neo aircraft and, as the German launch customer, will thus in future be relying on state-of-the-art technology, maximum efficiency and the highest level of customer comfort. The first aircraft is expected in October 2022, followed by the successive replacement of the entire long-haul fleet consisting of Boeing B767s until mid-2024.
