JetBlue Vacations Launches Flight and Cruise Packages

JetBlue Travel Products has launched JetBlue Vacations’ Flight + Cruise packages, making JetBlue the first domestic U.S. airline to offer customers the ability to book their flight, cruise and hotel all in one place. The new cruise packages with Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line and are now available on www.jetbluevacations.com, offering customers a unique opportunity to save time and money by bundling their travel purchases, with all segments of their journey backed by JetBlue’s signature service. Building on making travel seamless, the new flight + cruise launch marks JTP’s next foray into evolving JetBlue to a broader travel company offering entire trips in addition to flights.

“Continuing to build upon the trust that JetBlue has established over the last 20+ years, we want customers to book their entire trip, from flights and cruises to hotels and more, all with us,” said Andres Barry, president, JetBlue Travel Products. “Handling the customer service ourselves, rather than sending them to multiple entities, allows us to go above and beyond while meeting JetBlue standards at every single touchpoint. With cruise lines increasingly beginning to sail again, we’re excited to refresh our package offerings, as we continue to drive ancillaries and build our non-ticket revenue base.”

Focusing on ease and convenience, JetBlue Travel Products’ new offerings are designed to create a smoother traveller experience from booking to travel and even upon return. Today, booking a cruise vacation can be a stressful experience: customers spend a lot of time searching for flights that will get them to their port on time, doing the math and accounting for travel time on their own. There’s also always the risk that their flight will be delayed or cancelled, causing them to miss their cruise departure, without recourse. To solve some of these customer pain points and to get them into vacation mode faster, JTP has partnered with travel technology specialists Traveltek to give customers the ability to search and book cruise packages easily.

RAF conducts exercise in Egypt for first time in twenty years

RAF Typhoons currently deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean have taken part in the first exercise for 20 years with the Egyptian Air Force flying over Egypt.

The Typhoons currently deployed as part of 903 Expeditionary Air Wing joined Egyptian Air Force F-16s during Exercise BRIGHT STAR.  This was the first time since 2001 that the RAF have flown with the Egyptian Air Force. T he Typhoons were also joined on the exercise by F-16s from the Greek Air Force and US Air Force F-15s and F-16s together with C-130 Hercules and B-52s.

"Exercises such as Ex BRIGHT STAR 21 are vital as we develop and maintain interoperability with our coalition partners if the RAF is to be truly effective on operations throughout the Middle East.  Flying with other air forces requires extensive planning and the contributions of 903 Expeditionary Air Wing personnel have ensured that the exercise was safely and successfully completed."

Wing Commander ‘Dutch’ Holland
Commanding Officer 903 Expeditionary Air Wing

Most of the participating aircraft flew from Cairo West Air Base, RAF Typhoons however flew from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.  They were supported by an RAF Voyager, also from RAF Akrotiri, which provided air-to-air refuelling.

Exercise BRIGHT STAR is hosted in Egypt every two years and is run in cooperation with the United States Air Force.  This iteration took place in the North West of Egypt with the aim to test UK and partner forces interoperability.  The exercise was first held in 1980 to broker peace between Egypt and Israel, the most recent exercise before this year was held in 2018 as the 2020 exercise was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Aircraft Engine Market Size to Reach USD 108.47 Billion in 2028

The global aircraft engine market size reached USD 56.39 Billion in 2020 and is expected to register a significantly steady revenue CAGR during the forecast period, according to latest analysis by Emergen Research. Increasing demand for new aircraft and expansion of commercial aircraft fleets are some key factors expected to augment market revenue growth between 2021 and 2028.

Drivers:

Increasing demand for low-cost and fuel-efficient aircraft and increasing use of 3D printed aircraft engine parts are expected to propel revenue growth of the market over the forecast period. Various engine manufacturers are currently focusing on production of lightweight engines in order to lower the total weight of aircraft and enhance the fuel economy. GE Aviation has built an advanced turboprop engine, which is the first commercial aircraft engine with a high proportion of 3D printed parts. The engine designers reduced 855 different components to 12 components. This is intended to lower engine weight, resulting in less fuel required to achieve the very same speed.

Restraints:

Rising fuel prices, stringent emission standards, and need for superior engines are resulting in aircraft engine manufacturers to rethink existing models, which is a factor expected to restrain revenue growth of the market to some extent during the forecast period.

UK's RAF Typhoons conduct Expeditionary Combat Air Operations in Middle East

RAF Typhoons based in the Eastern Mediterranean conducted Expeditionary Combat air operations from a temporary base in the Middle East as a proof of concept.

During early October, the 903 Expeditionary Air Wing Typhoon Squadron based at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus forward deployed to a forward location in the Middle East from where it conducted an operational mission in support of Operation SHADER to further prove the Agile Combat Employment concept.

Agile Combat Employment is an operational concept of being able to operate from austere air bases in order to disperse and quickly manoeuvre combat capability throughout a theatre.  Supported by a minimal presence on the ground to provide support activities such as aircraft fueling, arming, and engineering; Agile Combat Employment expands the number of bases from which air forces can generate combat sorties.

"Wing Commander Dutch Holland said: "Agile Combat Employment is about utilising our assets from RAF Akrotiri under 903 Expeditionary Air Wing to their maximum extent.  In this example, we have projected our forces, the RAF Typhoon FGR4, to a Forward Operating Base.  We have undertaken this deployment and next [time] we will go for longer and perhaps further than this one."

"Operation BLUE DRAGON successfully demonstrated the UK ability to respond dynamically, flexibly, and rapidly under the Agile Combat Employment concept whilst maintaining our commitment to our coalition partners.  This operation is the first such deployment for 903 Expeditionary Air Wing and has enabled them to test how successful the aircraft and supporting personnel were able to operate in a new location and environment.  The team have demonstrated the capability of conducting air operations at short notice at a Forward Operating Base and further demonstrates to our Coalition partners and Middle Eastern allies, the UK’s continued commitment to the region."

Webb space telescope en route to the stars

Photo NASA
The Webb Space Telescope (WST) has arrived at the European spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. The spacecraft will now be prepared for its launch, scheduled for 18th December on an Ariane 5 launcher. One of the four instruments in its scientific suitcase is the Near InfraRed Spectrograph (NIRSpec) built by Airbus in Germany.

Prior to launch, a complete functional test campaign will be carried out in October to make sure that every part of the spacecraft is still working as expected following its journey to Kourou. Airbus will actively support the final electrical functional tests of the four science instruments (including NIRSpec) that will last approximately six days.

“The Webb telescope will change the way we see the Universe,” said Jean Marc Nasr, Head of Airbus Space Systems. “Our contributions to NIRSpec and MIRI instruments are a testament to Airbus’ expertise and the value we can bring to modern astronomy. We are proud to have played a key part in the future discoveries of the Webb mission.”

Once in orbit, Webb will begin a month-long journey, travelling four times the distance to the Moon, until it reaches its final destination, the Lagrange point L2, some 1.5 million km behind the Earth as viewed from the Sun.

Airbus will support NIRSpec from launch to commissioning (until the second quarter of 2022) by monitoring its parameters 24/7. This includes the period during the critical cool-down phase and then the initial functional testing when the NIRSpec instrument is turned on. Finally, the Airbus engineering team will also continue to support during performance check out and calibration until the end of commissioning.
