Moscow's Sheremetyevo shows formula for success...................

The Head of International Air Companies Service of Sheremetyevo International Airport said that the airport's success in the Chinese-European market is due to the strong attention it has paid to the needs of Chinese travellers as well as the airport's advantageous geographic position.

Speaking at the 2019 IAR Chinese-European Aviation Summit, Aleksandr Nikonov emphasized that Sheremetyevo particularly prioritizes on-time performance, development of innovative infrastructure, and the creation of a comfortable environment for Chinese passengers.

In 2017, Sheremetyevo became the first airport in the Moscow Air Cluster to obtain a China Friendly certificate, which acknowledges the high quality of services provided to Chinese passengers. The airport introduced a number of user-friendly features to cater to Chinese travellers, including the official website, voice announcements, and indoor navigation system all available in Chinese, among other languages.

Renovation of Terminal C at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport get the go-ahead

Sheremetyevo International Airport has received permission from the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency to commission the renovated Terminal C (stage 1). The terminal is scheduled to open to the public in January 2020.

The new and improved Terminal C (stage 1) is part of the northern terminal group and is designed to handle international flights. It has a total floor area of 127,374 m2 and a throughput capacity of 20 million passengers per year. It also features an indoor pedestrian passageway connecting it to a 5-level parking area with 2,500 spaces.

The design of Terminal C, which is in the tradition of Russian constructivism, naturally combines the best tradition of Russian art and modern technologies.

Sheremetyevo Airport passenger traffic increased 9.2 percent in ten months, to more than 42 million

Sheremetyevo International Airport served 42,828,000 people from January through October 2019, an increase of 9.2 percent over the same period last year.


There were 325,890 take-off and landing operations in the ten-month period, which was 10.8 percent more than for the same period in 2018.

From January to October, passenger traffic on international air lines grew by 9.2% and totalled 22,925,000 people. The growth on domestic flights was 14.2 percent, a total of 19,904,000 passengers.

The third runway is operational at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport

On September 19, 2019, the third runway (Runway-3) was commissioned at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow. The official opening took place with the participation of the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on environmental issues, ecology and transport S.B. Ivanov, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation E.I. Dietrich, Head of the Federal Air Transport Agency A.V. Neradko, Governor of the Moscow Region A.Y. Vorobyov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC “SIA” A.A. Ponomarenko, the leadership of specialized organizations and airlines.

Alexander Neradko presented Alexander Ponomarenko a new certificate of conformity of the Sheremetyevo airdrome. Also, the participants of the event witnessed the first landing of the aircraft on Runway-3. It was an “Aeroflot” flight SU 019 St. Petersburg - Moscow. The first aircraft with passengers on board on the new runway was greeted with a traditional aviation salute - a water arch.

Japan Airlines announces relocation plans to Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport

Japan Airlines (JAL) revealed upcoming plans to relocate services to Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport. The carrier has operated flights from Tokyo to Moscow consecutively since 1967.  

JAL announced a comprehensive business partnership with Aeroflot Russian Airlines (SU) in 2017. Aeroflot's gateway hub is located at Sheremetyevo airport. Aeroflot has the largest network in Russia, allowing customers to conveniently travel to numerous destinations from Sheremetyevo airport.

Once the relocation is completed in 2020, JAL plans to start a codeshare partnership with Aeroflot, strengthening the relationship between the two carriers. Additionally, JAL will operate a new route between Tokyo Narita and Vladivostok during the summer schedule of 2020. This enables JAL continued contributions to the economic development and cultural exchange between Japan and Russia.

Brussels Airlines moves its Moscow route from Domodedovo to Sheremetyevo

As from June 2nd, Brussels Airlines will offer flights from Brussels to Sheremetyevo International Airport near the city of Moscow instead of Domodedovo Airport. The Sheremetyevo International Airport is with its industrial implementation a prime location and among the first choice of corporate travellers. For passengers who wish to fly to Domodedovo Airport, the Lufthansa Group airlines Austrian, Lufthansa and Swiss offer attractive travel alternatives via their respective hubs.

Since the start of its Moscow operations in 2004, Brussels Airlines operates flights to Moscow Domodedovo Airport. As of June 2nd the airline will move its operations from Domodedovo Airport to Sheremetyevo International Airport, a prime location with an important industrial area. The airline herewith responds to the high share of businessmen and women travelling with Brussels Airlines from Brussels Airport to Moscow. Sheremetyevo is also for leisure travellers an attractive airport as it is easier to reach out of the city centre of Moscow.

Aeroflot completes transfer of domestic flights to new Sheremetyevo Terminal B

The leading Russian airline Aeroflot has completed the transfer of domestic flights to the new Terminal B at Sheremetyevo International Airport. 

Starting today, November 15th Terminal B will service approximately 402 domestic flights daily.
Terminal D will continue to serve 40 domestic flights:  8 Aeroflot’s own flights to Vladivostok, Khabarovsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and 32 flights to 11 destinations:  Sochi, Magadan, Khabarovsk, Krasnodar, Mineralnye Vody, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Orenburg, Rostov-on-Don, Simferopol, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Vladivostok. These flights will be operated jointly with Aeroflot's subsidiary Rossiya Airlines.

The new Terminal B is designed for domestic operations. It can service up to 20 million passengers per year and has a total area of 100,500 square metres.  Transfer passengers will be able to use an underground inter-terminal passage featuring passenger and baggage tunnel to move between the north (terminal B) and south (terminals D, E, F) terminal complexes. With 4 minutes of travel time between the airport terminals, the passage provides a guaranteed connection time of up to 50 minutes throughout the entire airport.

Passengers are invited to use the round-the-clock inter-terminal passage with its underground automatic trains. The entrances are located at station complexes Sheremetyevo 1 and Sheremetyevo 2. The Sheremetyevo 1 station is located at the first underground floor of Terminal B.  The Sheremetyevo 2 station is integrated with the passage between terminals E and D.

Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport welcomes British Airways flights from London Heathrow

On Sunday 28th October, Sheremetyevo International Airport welcomed a British Airways flight from London Heathrow, making a welcome return for the airline to the airport. The UK's leading legacy airline, part of the IAG group previously operated flights to Sheremetyevo but stopped in 2003. 

The service will now give passengers more choice as well as making it more convenient to get into the centre of Moscow as Sheremetyevo International Airport is located around 29 km's that is 18 miles, northwest of central Moscow. It takes just 35 minutes to get to downtown Moscow on the Aeroexpress train service that operates a nonstop link between the airport to Belorussky station.  Buses also operate between the airport and Moscow city centre with journey times comparable to the Aeroexpress. The toll road Leningradskoye highway also makes getting to and from the airport a much quicker and easier experience.

Rossiya Airlines transfers some flights in Moscow from Vnukovo to Sheremetyevo

Rossiya Airlines will transfer some of its flights from Vnukovo International Airport to Sheremetyevo International Airport (Terminal D) at the start of the 2018/19 winter season. Starting from 28th October 2018 Russia’s largest airport will service the following flights:

Moscow-Vladivostok

Moscow-Khabarovsk

Moscow-Magadan

Moscow-Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

Moscow-Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

Moscow-Kaliningrad

Moscow-Simferopol

Moscow-Orenburg

Moscow-Denpasar

The transfer of these flights is part of Aeroflot Group’s measures to create a strong transit hub (Rossiya Airlines is the second largest carrier of Aeroflot Group). Working with Sheremetyevo airport will allow the Group to streamline its route network and give passengers convenient transit opportunities on important domestic routes.
