Tie up between Norwegian & Norse Atlantic Airways

Norwegian Air Shuttle and Norse Atlantic Airways have entered into an agreement that will allow customers to purchase tickets with connecting flights on both airlines in one transaction.

‘This agreement is win-win for both our customers and Norwegian. Our customers throughout Europe can now connect to Norse routes across the USA. Likewise, inbound customers flying Norse from the USA can now seamlessly connect to the Norwegian network throughout Europe on one ticket’, said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.

The Islandic software company, DoHop, is providing the platform to facilitate the close integration between Norse and Norwegian’s flight itineraries. Norwegian-operated flights throughout the Nordics and Europe will efficiently connect with Norse’s transatlantic flights.

Connecting flights can be purchased from today for travel in September. Customers can now search on https://connections.flynorse.com and will soon also be available on search engines like Finn.no and Google Flights.

Today, Norse Atlantic Airways has started selling tickets for its new route between London Gatwick and New York JFK which is set to start on 12th August 2022. Fares will start from as low as £255 return, including all applicable taxes. 

The first flight departing London Gatwick to New York (JFK) will take place on 12th August 2022. Norse Atlantic will offer a daily service between the UK and the US. Other US destinations will be announced soon. The flights will be operated by modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. 

The daily flight will depart from London at 13.00 and arrive in New York at 15.55 local time. The return departs New York at 17.55 and lands in London Gatwick at 06.20 local time the following day. 

Temporarily from August and throughout the summer Norse Atlantic will also operate flights between London Gatwick and Oslo. The daily morning flights between London and Oslo, operated by Boeing 787 Dreamliners offering both our Premium and Economy cabins, are available to book now with fares from only £41 one way including taxes. The London to Oslo flights will not only provide the most comfortable option to travel to Norway they will also allow UK customers to take advantage of connecting services from Oslo to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Los Angeles.

Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority clears Norse Atlantic Airways to start transatlantic flights.

The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority has issued an air operator’s certificate (AOC) this week to Arendal, Norway, based budget carrier Norse Atlantic Airways. Clearing the start-up airline to commence transatlantic flights in spring 2022.  

“We would like to thank Norway’s Civil Aviation Authority for a constructive and professional process. We are now one important step closer to launching our attractive and affordable flights between Europe and the U.S. in spring next year,” said CEO and founder Bjørn Tore Larsen of Norse.  

“We’ve had a good and constructive dialogue with Norse throughout the process of issuing a Norwegian AOC. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to a continued fruitful relationship going forward,” said Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authorities of Norway, Lars E. de Lange Kobberstad. 

An AOC is the approval granted by a national aviation authority to an aircraft operator to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes. This requires the operator to have personnel, assets and systems in place to ensure the safety of its employees and the general public. 

“I would also like to commend my colleagues at Norse for their outstanding efforts getting the important AOC in place,” Bjørn Tore Larsen added. 

Norse plans to start commercial operation in spring 2022 and the first flights will depart from Oslo to selected cities in the U.S.  The firm plans to serve the intercontinental market with modern, fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Among other destinations, it will serve New York, Florida, Paris, London and Oslo. If all goes well with the start-up phase, the airline expects that its fleet of 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners will be in the air plying the highly competitive transatlantic market by summer 2022.

Norse Atlantic Airways will create many new jobs in the air and on the ground both in Europe and the U.S. The company’s employees will be directly employed by the airline, unlike its forerunner Norwegian, the firm says it will offer competitive wages and benefits as well as collective agreements. Norse Atlantic has signed pre-hire agreements with the Association of Flight Attendants, the largest cabin union in the U.S., and the British Airline Pilots Association. The company is also in dialogue with pilot and cabin unions in other countries, including Norway. In total, the firm expects to have approximately 1,600 employees by summer 2022, based in the U.S., UK, and Norway.

UK Pilot unions welcomes Norse Atlantic Airways plans

The British Airline Pilots Association and Norse Atlantic Airways announce partnership to bring hundreds of jobs to the UK

The British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) and Norse Atlantic Airways (Norse), the new intercontinental airline, have entered into a new agreement that will deliver hundreds of jobs in the UK.

 

The new airline plans to commence affordable flights between Europe and North America in 2022, with a fleet of more environmentally friendly Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

 

BALPA’s National Officer Terry Brandon, said:  “This is a glimmer of hope for the struggling UK aviation industry that is much needed. We are pleased to welcome Norse Atlantic to London and the new jobs they will deliver at this critical time.

 

“Our negotiating team has been incredibly impressed with the company’s business plan as it will provide sustainable long-term careers for our members on its transatlantic route network. This collective agreement will facilitate a fruitful relationship between BALPA and Norse to ensure that Norse is a great place to work.

“It is a refreshing change to have an employer knocking on our door asking for an agreement, rather than us chasing the employer. Norse has proven to be a different breed; they have recognition of unions in their DNA. Consultations and dialogue are just natural, and we can really be a contributor to the business when the employer brings us in like Norse has done”.

AerCap to provide new Norwegian airline Norse Atlantic Airways with 9 former Norwegian Boeing 787 aircraft

Leasing firm AerCap Holdings confirmed today what had been rumoured for a week or so, which was that it will be leasing six used Boeing 787-9 and three used Boeing 787-8 aircraft to the new Norwegian start-up airline Norse Atlantic Airways.

Peter Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer of AerCap, said, "AerCap is excited to announce the signing of lease agreements for nine Boeing 787 aircraft with Norse Atlantic Airways.  With its superior operating characteristics, the 787 is the perfect aircraft for Norse Atlantic Airways to launch a modern long-haul low-cost airline, and we are delighted to be supplying them with their first aircraft.  We wish Norse Atlantic Airways every success and look forward to working with them as they roll out their plan in the years to come."

Norse Atlantic Airways, based in Oslo, Norway, plan to launch long-haul low-cost services, connecting major cities in Europe and the USA with these aircraft scheduled for delivery during 2021.  The Leases are at attractive rates and payment terms, allowing the Norse Atlantic team to offer a flexible implementation during the start-up phase. The lease terms are approximately 8 years for the 787-8 aircraft and approximately 12 years for the 787-9 aircraft. The launch date for Norse Atlantic is expected to be sometime during December 2021, in time for a Christmas rush, but at an otherwise relatively quiet time from transatlantic travel 

These aircraft previously flew with the budget carrier Norwegian, before it axed its entire long-haul operation to save itself from complete collapse. Yet, these aircraft are not the only connection to Norwegian, Norse Atlantic Airways has.  Three of the founders - Bjørn Tore Larsen, Bjorn Kljos and Bjørn Kise all held top jobs with Norwegian or OSM Aviation. A number of other key personnel are former Norwegian employees and the whole focus on being low-fare and low-cost, with lean management and administration teams, to operate long-haul flights, with high cabin utilization is pretty much how the former carrier started.
