Loganair restarts services to Norway.....

Today marks the long-awaited return of direct flights from Edinburgh to Bergen and Stavanger, as Loganair revives the popular services, reconnecting Scots with Norway.

The two direct services from Edinburgh to Stavanger and Bergen have been relaunched for the first time since the pandemic, and they also mark the airline’s first international routes from Edinburgh Airport since 2019, and the first international route launches in the airline's 60th anniversary year.

The routes will see three flights per week reinstated to each destination. Flights to Stavanger take off Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Flights to Bergen take off Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Additional flights from Aberdeen to Oslo Gardermoen will also commence in September to further strengthen connectivity between the countries.

Customers in Scotland that wish to venture further and explore Northern Norway will have the opportunity to connect easily via Loganair’s codeshare partnership with Norwegian regional airline, Widerøe. Flights to these destinations can also be booked at Loganair.co.uk.

Upon visiting Stavanger and Bergen, you will find much more than just breath-taking Fjords, but an unforgettable experience. Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city, is an incredible hub for both culture and history, with a vibrant nightlife, juxtaposed with contemporary art museums, such as the KODE. Similarly, Stavanger is full of colourful homes on colourful streets, white sandy beaches, and is home to some of Norway’s top restaurants. Not unlike Edinburgh, Bergen and Stavanger’s dynamic central and urban culture makes the perfect getaway.

New connections for Shetland.......

Shetland gets two new direct flight connections that will boost tourism and business and provide crucial air corridors for Shetlanders. Loganair has started services to London City and to Dundee.

The new London City route takes three and a half hours and operates twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays.

The new Dundee service also flies twice a week also on Mondays and Thursdays utilising the same aircraft.

Both routes to Dundee and London City qualify under the Air Discount Scheme (ADS) which provides Shetland permanent residents with a discount of 50% off certain air fares.

Kay Ryan, chief commercial officer at Loganair, said: "This new direct service between London City Airport and Shetland allows for quick and easy access to two of the UK’s most popular destinations for the first time. Shetlanders will now be just a short trip from the bustling city of London for both business and leisure, while Londoners, and those travelling through London, have access to the tranquil setting of Shetland where they can take in the incredible wildlife and picturesque views on offer.

Likewise, the new Dundee route brings connectivity to the east coast of Scotland, allowing travellers to explore all that the city has on offer but also allowing further access to nearby coastal towns such as St Andrews."

Inglis Lyon, HIAL managing director said: "The launch of Loganair’s service between Dundee and Shetland is reflective of the positive domestic recovery the aviation sector is experiencing across both Scotland and the UK.  The new route will provide greater connectivity between the two locations and also allow passengers to link to London City. This is a welcome addition that will allow greater accessibility between national cities and remote areas of Scotland."

Loganair axing routes from Teesside as increasing fuel prices and high fees at Heathrow begin to bite....

The UK regional airline Loganair is axing some routes from Teesside Airport as an increase in fuel prices begins to eat into the profitability of flights.

There has been a significant increase in London Heathrow’s take-off and landing fees which has led to a significant increase in costs. Loganair says that this, coupled with global oil prices affecting the cost of aviation fuel, means that the London Heathrow route from Teesside has become unviable and will end in two weeks.

The Teesside to Southampton service will also stop as a result of the cessation of the London service as it cannot be accommodated on the remaining Loganair aircraft.

Kay Ryan, Chief Commercial Officer for Loganair, said: "I am extremely disappointed that Loganair will no longer provide a London Heathrow service due to rising costs, and completely understand the decision taken for all the reasons outlined. Customers affected by the cancellation will receive either an alternative routing if applicable or a refund should they prefer that option."

Phil Forster, Managing Director of Teesside International Airport, said: "I’d like to thank all of our loyal passengers who have been supporting this service since its launch and apologise for the inconvenience this will cause. Rising costs across the industry have meant that the route is no longer viable and not something we could support without passing that on to our passengers."

Passengers booked to travel to Southampton will be offered alternative flights or a full refund.

Passengers booked to travel to London Heathrow will be offered a full refund.

Loganair enhances flight options to London from Isle of Man....

One of Europe's leading regional airlines, Lognair, has enhanced its flight connections to London from the Isle of Man.  On 3rd May the airline launched its new services to Heathrow Airport and also expanded schedules to London City Airport.

Loganair's route to London City flies twice daily.
The Heathrow service operates daily.

Loganair’s 72-seat ATR72-600 aircraft will be deployed for all Isle of Man routes.  Though all Loganair flights are fully carbon offset as part of its GreenSkies initiative, these are also the most environmentally efficient regional aircraft, with excellent onboard comfort levels for customers.

The daily services linking the Isle of Man with London Heathrow are designed to connect the island with the rest of the world, via a whole host of destinations with partner airlines including British Airways.

The new services will be flown by Loganair’s Isle of Man-based team of pilots, cabin crew and engineers. The airline now has more than 30 staff based at Ronaldsway who also support existing Loganair routes to Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for the Isle of Man Department for Enterprise, commented:  “Ensuring the Island is well connected by air is a matter of strategic national importance, particularly during this critical period of economic recovery following the pandemic.  The Department for Enterprise has been working closely with the Department of Infrastructure and Treasury in developing a strategic approach that will provide long term security of the Island’s air routes for the benefit of both leisure and business travellers.

Securing additional flights to the London region for 2022 was an important interim measure and I am delighted that an agreement has been reached with Loganair to provide connectivity to both London City and Heathrow.”

Loganair drops mask requirement from Monday and expands charter operations

Scotland's leading airline and one of the largest regional airlines in the UK, Loganair has confirmed that from Monday, 18th April, in line with Scottish Government regulations, face coverings will no longer be a legal requirement on its flights.

Whilst the airline will continue to recommend wearing face coverings, it will be a matter of personal choice for both our customers and our crews instead of a legal mandate.

This applies throughout the Loganair network unless flying to a country where a legal mandate still applies or, on a charter flight where the company chartering the plane has set a more restrictive policy for its customers. travellers.

The regional airline will also be playing its part in the resurgence of incoming tourism with new weekend charter routes this summer to bring visitors from Denmark and Germany to the UK.  The carrier will be its 49-seat Embraer E145 aircraft for the charter services from Aalborg to Edinburgh and Belfast City for Nilles Rejser, and from Erfurt and Leipzig to Exeter for guests from vianova GmbH visiting the south-west. The firm has also signed up to work with golf and whisky specialist tour operators promoting its Esbjerg-Aberdeen scheduled flights.

Recently, Loganair operated a special flight from London Heathrow to Edinburgh for 51 Ukrainian children and their carers in conjunction with the Scottish Government, to travel safely to Scotland.

This year the airline is celebrating its Diamond Anniversary - yes they've been around for 60 years, which is pretty remarkable in the airline industry. They are now the longest-serving UK airline operating under its original name.

From modest beginnings in 1962 in Renfrew, to the UK’s largest regional airline today, Loganair, making it personal. Loganair now has a fleet of 43 aircraft and operations from 34 UK airports,

Further Isle of Man-based pilots and cabin crew have joined Loganair this week – many formerly employed by Flybe and Stobart Air before the collapse of both airlines – to commence their training onto the 72-seat ATR72-600 aircraft deployed by Loganair on its IOM routes.  These are the most environmentally efficient regional aircraft, combining best-in-class fuel burn and carbon emissions performance with excellent onboard comfort levels for customers.

Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for the Isle of Man Department for Enterprise said:  ‘We are very pleased to be working with Loganair on these two new London routes to City and Heathrow. As an international business centre, we rely on good connections to the UK and further afield to give our business community access to clients around the world. Having a day return flight will be a real asset for both Isle of Man and London-based businesses."

London City’s Chief Commercial Officer Richard Hill said: "We are delighted to be welcoming back a regular service between London City and the Isle of Man with Loganair. Regional connectivity, and regular, reliable connections to the heart of London has never been more important, and we look forward to working with partners to both promote the service to businesses and to passengers who are planning their next staycation."

Set in the Irish Sea, at a midway point between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, the Isle of Man is a beautiful, welcoming, entertaining place. It offers visitors attractions galore including glorious coastal scenery, historic castles, 26 stellar Dark-Parks, Dhoon Glen where a waterfall plummets 120 feet,  The world’s biggest working waterwheel at 72 feet high, The Motor Museum and of course the world-famous TT motorbike races.

IOM features 100 miles of coastline with beaches and cliffscapes to explore,  or boat trips to find seals and whales.  Coming soon there is the Beer & Cider Festival and later in the year, there are a number of agricultural shows and events.

Loganair adds £3.95 fuel surcharge to new bookings from next week........

Loganair, one of the UK's leading regional airlines has been forced to add a fuel surcharge to new ticket sales as it contends with greatly increasing worldwide fuel prices due to the war in Ukraine.

Last week the airline's  Chief Executive, Jonathan Hinkles, said: "The economic consequences of the war are also being felt keenly across the airline industry and the entire economy, given the very significant rise in worldwide fuel prices in recent days.

Loganair has already fixed the price for over 50% of its expected fuel volume for the 12 months from 1 April 2022 using financial hedging instruments. For the remainder of our fuel volume, the rise in global oil prices equates to an additional cost of £4.7 million in the coming year at today’s oil price. It is simply impossible for us to absorb this impact, especially where airlines including Loganair still face significant uncertainty over the pace of recovery in passenger numbers from the pandemic.

We’ve realistically no option but to introduce a fuel surcharge on new ticket sales, which will apply to new sales from 21 March onwards."

Loganair will add a surcharge of £3.95 per one-way journey, save for routes flown under Public Service Obligations. The company will include it in the displayed price on its website but will show it separately during the check-out process.

The personable Hinkles added: “This isn’t something that we wished to do, nor is it a step that we have taken lightly. Although it will be unwelcome, I trust that this represents a transparent response to worldwide circumstances which is preferable to an opaque, and permanent, increase in basic airfares.”

The surcharge may be reduced or even removed depending on the price levels of a barrel of  Brent Crude Oil in future weeks.

Speaking about the crisis unfolding each day in Ukraine, Hinkles stated "The tragedy of war in Ukraine is all too apparent, and the human consequences of that are clearly – and dreadfully – visible. Last week, Loganair made contact with councils and regional Governments of the communities it serves to offer assistance with free travel across its route network for people displaced by the conflict. We stand ready to help in any way we can, and we’ve developed contingency plans to deploy our freighter aircraft to fly medical or humanitarian aid directly from Scotland to locations in eastern Poland if the need arises.

We have also taken every possible step to ensure that none of our supplier base or trading links benefits Russia or Russian interests in any way.  I’m confident that there were, and are, no such links in place."

Loganair forms partnership with Middlesbrough Football Club and opens up GreenSkies Community Fund

Loganair, the UK’s largest regional airline, has announced a partnership with Middlesbrough FC, the football club closest to its operational base at Teesside Airport.

This sees the Glasgow-headquartered operator become a Gold Partner of the EFL Championship club and the club’s official airline partner. The deal has an initial one-year duration.

Regional airline Loganair issues new TV commercial.

The UK's regional airline Loganair has issued a new TV commercial to entice people to enjoy a staycation rather than travelling overseas as travel restrictions are slowly lifted.

The carrier says that whilst many far-flung shores remain out of reach (or are just too stressful to reach), there's never been a better summer to visit those places closer to home as you've always promised yourself...

The new TV ad is running nationwide on ITV, Sky & UKTV which they think showcases just some of the gems right on our doorstep - just a handful of over 35 UK destinations Loganair currently flies to.

Loganair to start Newcastle - Jersey service

Loganair, the UK regional airline with the Scottish flair has confirmed it will start a new direct service between Newcastle and Jersey as part of its 2021 summer schedule.
