Mexico’s president Andrรฉs Manuel Lรณpez Obrador had refused to use the jet, claiming it was too expensive and luxurious, since he took office in December 2018. Now, after nearly 4.5 years of trying to, the president confirmed the country had sold the jet to Tajikistan.
"After a long time, we managed to sell the plane,” Lรณpez Obrador commented, “We are happy. We are going to use the money from selling the plane to build two hospitals.”
The president had been looking to offload the aircraft for some time as it cost almost the same to keep the plane grounded as it would to use the aircraft for official business.
