American Airlines employee dies on tarmac of Austin int'l airport

Authorities in Austin Texas confirmed an American Airlines employee had died on the tarmac of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport after the vehicle he was on struck an airbridge. Austin-Travis County EMS said the person died of "traumatic injuries" but had no further details.

The airport confirmed the incident and said that staff had worked with the emergency services, but said the accident had no significant impacts on its operations.  

American Airlines confirmed the man was an employee and issued the following statement: "We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members."

Austin Police Department told reporters the male was pronounced dead at the scene and the department's Vehicular Homicide Unit was investigating the incident as an accidental death at this time.
