Eurowings celebrates its 1000th sneaker flight

Lufthansa Group airline with sports shoes on board instead of high heels

The sneaker alert at Eurowings continues: crews and teams of the German airline will once again wear white sports shoes featuring the Eurowings logo with their uniforms on Friday, 4 November. With the third edition of its "Sneaker Flydays," the airline of the Lufthansa Group is already celebrating its thousandth flight in sports shoes. Eurowings is not only providing a fashion eye-catcher with the sneakers to go with the uniform. A discussion has also started in the aviation industry as to whether sports shoes are not fundamentally the more comfortable "fit" for crew members.

Eurowings considers expansion and initiates industry-wide discussion

Are sports shoes generally the more comfortable "fit" for crew members?

"The next airline where flight attendants swap high heels for sneakers," is what travel blogs are saying about Eurowings on the matter. On social media, numerous airline employees are speaking out in favor of wearing sports shoes on board. There is now "an international discussion" about the choice of footwear, writes Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.

Among the pioneers among airlines that have integrated sneakers on board into their uniform dress codes are Ukraine's SkyUp Airlines, Iceland's Play and Japanese carrier Zipair. Eurowings has deliberately declared its "Sneaker Flydays", which currently take place on the first Friday of every month, to be a test phase. First, the Lufthansa Group airline wants to analyze the reactions of its own staff and customers. If the feedback on the sneakers remains this positive, Eurowings is considering increasing the frequency of the "Sneaker Flydays" in the new year.

With this campaign, Eurowings wants to meet the desire of employees for a sporty travel companion. As a token of appreciation for all the extra miles Eurowings employees have gone during the pandemic, every employee received free sneakers from cooperation partner Puma in September. Since then, the all-white sneakers with the Eurowings logo can not only be worn privately and in the office, but also on board Eurowings flights – always on specific Fridays, the so-called "Sneaker Flydays”.

With this sporty outfit, Eurowings is emphasizing its claim to venture into new territory and move with the times – far beyond Germany. In addition to Eurowings Germany, Eurowings Europe is also taking part in the "Sneaker Flydays" – with locations in Mallorca, Stockholm, Prague, Salzburg and Pristina.
