Brussels Airlines pilots and cabin crew set to strike next week....

The harmonious atmosphere in Belgium will be broken by news that cabin crew and pilot unions at the Lufthansa owned local carrier, Brussels Airlines are calling for strike action of the duration of a European Summit in the city later this month.

ACV Puls trade union spokesperson said the carrier had laid off staff during 2020 because of a restructuring instigated by the COVID-19 pandemic and not adequately restaffed the airline causing disruption and excessive flying hours. "The workload is too much. In some cases, there are cabin crew doing 18 flights in five days. If you are too tired, there is a problem of safety."

Leaders from across the EU will be in Brussels to discuss the possibility of granting Ukraine European Union candidacy status over Thursday and Friday of next week and the unions are planning to strike on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
