airBaltic carried 244 000 passengers during April

airBaltic carried 244 000 passengers during the month of April this year, almost four times as many as in the same period last year. The Latvian airline operated 3150 flights during the month, that's an average of just over 77 people per flight.

Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic: “Each month we carry a growing number of passengers, proving that the aviation industry is on a path to recovery. Even though in April we carried significantly more passengers than last year, it is still 40% lower than in 2019.”

airBaltic is a joint-stock company that was established in 1995. Its primary shareholder is the Latvian state, which holds 97.03% of the stock, while the rest of the shareholders hold 2.97%.

The airline recently announced that in cooperation with UkrPoshta it has organized a multimodal mail transportation system and thus reopened cargo operations from Kyiv, Ukraine.  Gauss said: “We do our utmost to help the Ukrainian nation. As a result, a regular truck line Kyiv-Riga now feeds airBaltic flight network from Ukraine to major European hubs and beyond.”

The first mail shipment from Kyiv arrived in Riga on April 12. Since then the company has handled more than 7 000 mail bags from Ukraine with a total weight of over 50 tonnes.

airBaltic has an all-Airbus A220-300 fleet of over 30 aircraft,  with a total of 145 seats which offers an excellent flying experience with such benefits for passengers including wider seats, larger windows, more hand luggage space in the cabin, improved lavatories and others.

The new aircraft is also much quieter – with a four times smaller noise footprint. Moreover, at the moment, it is the greenest commercial aircraft in the world, as it is the first aircraft to have a transparent declaration of the life-cycle environmental impact, helping to reduce CO2 and NOX emissions by 20% and 50% respectively.
