Passenger loads up for budget U.S. airline Allegiant.

With first-quarter revenues of over $500 million, up 10.7% from 2019, it is no wonder that Drew Wells, senior vice president of revenue for low-cost carrier Allegiant is happy.  The carrier has seen demand picking up from mid-February resulting in load factors for the month of March above that of 2019.

The airline has also seen demand increase in March, to above 2019 levels which is looking positive for the future, the airline believes second-quarter load factors will also exceed 2019 levels.

The sudden spike in fuel resulted in Allegiant spending $22 million more in fuel expenses than expected during the quarter which has caused the losses to the budget airline. "As we head into the second quarter, we have optimized our planned capacity growth to prioritize operational integrity, better align with a high-fuel environment, and enhance profitability." the airline says.
