The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has put a hold on 90 Pilots from airline SpiceJet from flying Boeing 737 MAX jets over training issues.

The DGCA Director-General Arun Kumar told local media “For the moment, we have barred these pilots from flying Max and they have to retrain successfully for flying Max.” Kumar also warned the DGCA “will take strict action against those found responsible for the lapse.” After revelations that the stick shaker wasn’t operational on the simulator training, the pilots had taken.

The budget carrier has 650 pilots rated to fly the 737 MAX fleet, of which it has 11 examples and only needs 144 pilots to operate them, therefore its operations will not be affected.  The airline also indicated in a statement that whilst those 90 pilots required retraining on the 737 MAX, they were still available to pilot other 737 models.
