airBaltic extends suspension of Russia flights until May

The Latvian airline airBaltic has confirmed today that because of the increased risk and imposed restrictions all its flights to and from Russia will be cancelled until the end of May 2022.

The carrier said:  "The safety and security of our passengers and employees is the main priority of airBaltic. airBaltic is evaluating the current situation before each flight and remains in close contact with national and international authorities. The airline is flexible and ready to adjust its flight schedule when necessary."

Earlier this month, on 23rd the carrier welcomed its 33rd Airbus A220-300 jet, registered as YL-ABG, in Riga. This is the first of eight planned Airbus A220-300 aircraft deliveries for airBaltic in 2022 and is part of the 50 Airbus A220-300 which airBaltic has ordered.
Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic: “This is the first airBaltic Airbus A220-300 aircraft which is certified to operate up to 148 seats. Until now we could use 145 seats on the aircraft, however, going forward also existing fleet will gradually be recertified for this additional capacity, which will further drive efficiency of our operations.”

Since May 2020, airBaltic operates all its flights with a single aircraft type – Airbus A220-300, thus minimizing the complexity and benefiting from the additional efficiency provided by the aircraft.
