Air Serbia, the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, has confirmed it will start scheduled flights between Belgrade and Trieste from 2nd June, as well as a scheduled Belgrade-Bologna service on June 6. Flights to both destinations in Italy will operate three times a week - to Trieste on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and to Bologna on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
With the introduction of flights to Trieste and Bologna, and existing flights to Rome and Milan, as well as announced flights to Venice and Bari, Italy becomes the market with the currently largest number of destinations to which Air Serbia operates from Belgrade - six in total.
"The decision to introduce new destinations in Italy is the result of the strategic importance of renewing and strengthening our presence in one of the most visited countries in the world. Italy represents an extremely important market, both for our airline and for Serbia, due to close economic ties between our two countries. We are especially glad to commence direct flights to Trieste, the city with the biggest Serbian diaspora in Italy, while services to Bologna will furthermore contribute to strengthening our cultural and economic relations with Italy", said Bojan Aranđelović, Head of Network Planning and Scheduling at Air Serbia.
Located in the northernmost part of the Adriatic Sea, at the very border of Italy with Slovenia, Trieste is the capital of autonomous province Friuli-Venezia Giulia and represents the coastal gate to northern Italy, Germany, Austria and Central Europe. By adding Trieste to its international network of destinations, Air Serbia will cover the region of northeast Italy, as well as a part of Slovenian cities in the vicinity. Combined with flights to Venice, the national airline will operate six flights a week to this part of Italy.
By establishing flights on this route, Air Serbia will provide seamless connections, via Belgrade, between Trieste and other cities in its network, such as Athens, Dubrovnik, Istanbul, Larnaca, New York, Podgorica, Skopje, Thessaloniki, Tirana and Tivat.
Bologna, the capital of the richest Italian region, Emilia-Romagna, and the seventh biggest city in Italy, is known as the culinary and student capital of this country, with numerous museums and a historic centre protected by UNESCO. Every corner of this dynamic student metropolis takes one back to the glorious past, when Dante Alighieri and Francesco Petrarca sat in the amphitheatre of the oldest University in Europe.
By introducing flights to Bologna, Air Serbia will provide great connections between this city and other destinations in its network, such as Athens, Bucharest, Zurich, Dubrovnik, Istanbul, Krasnodar, Larnaca, Moscow, Podgorica, Sarajevo, Skopje, Sofia, Thessaloniki, Tirana and Tivat.
In 2019, Air Serbia operated flights between Niš and Bologna two times a week, while its predecessor Jat Airways operated flights on the Belgrade-Trieste route, three times a week, until May 2011.

In June 2017, Air Serbia retrofitted its narrow-body Airbus fleet with the award-winning Recaro BL3520 seats, which feature a lightweight design that offers outstanding levels of passenger comfort.
In October 2013, the firm took delivery of its first A319 aircraft, by September 2014, the fleet expanded with the arrival of an additional seven A319 and two A320 aircraft. The first Airbus A330 aircraft joined the fleet in 2016 to operate between Belgrade and New York.

Starting from 21 April, Air Serbia will launch new scheduled direct flights between Belgrade and Valencia, as well as seasonal flights to three new destinations in Europe – Bari, Palma de Mallorca and Rijeka, starting from 5 June 2022.
Flights between Belgrade and Valencia will operate twice a week – on Wednesdays and Saturdays, during April and May, and then on Thursdays and Sundays from early June. The national airline will deploy an Airbus A319 aircraft on its third route to Spain, which had no direct service from the Serbian capital so far.
As the Kingdom of Spain’s third-largest city, and the largest port in western Mediterranean, Valencia is known by its beautiful beaches, City of Arts and Sciences, football club, traditional festival of fire - the Falles, and renowned dish - paella. By launching this route, Air Serbia will provide good connections between Valencia and other cities in its network via Belgrade, such as Athens, Bucharest, Dubrovnik, Larnaca, Moscow, Podgorica, Sarajevo, Skopje, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Split, Tirana, Tivat, etc.
