Germany imposed a two-week quarantine on UK arrivals last week,  Austria went even further and has banned direct UK flights starting on 1st June. Now France has become the latest nation to put on travel restrictions for people from the UK. The French ban comes into effect on on 31st May, with no end date in sight.

The  B.1.617.2 variant is much more transmittable than other varients and according to Chris Whitty, England's chief medical officer, "We expect, over time, this variant to overtake and come to dominate in the UK,".

France, Germany and Austria are currently on the amber list in England, which requires arrivals from those countries to isolated, and the government advises against travel there.  Last week, the European Union agreed allow those who have been fully vaccinated to travel across the bloc's 27 countries without hinderence or the need to quanretine.

However, there are a number of cases of the B.1.617.2 varient occuring in France and other European nations according to local media reports.
