Airbus workers from the Puerto Real, Cadiz, factory put up barricades on the CA-35 and set them on fire to block access to the capital on Wednesday, April 14, in an ongoing dispute with the planemaker over the closure of the site.
However, they had more impact than they bargained for as the adjacent pine forest also caught fire, and whilst the exact cause hasn't been confirmed yet, it seems pretty inevitable it was the striking workers. A strong easterly wind carried sparks across the road towards the forest. Although some of the strikers claimed to have seen two men running from the forest just before the fire in a bid to halt the demonstration.
