One dead after helicopter crashes into New York towerblock

The New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the whole of a 54-storey office tower block on Seventh Avenue, in New York city, shook from the impact of a helicopter crash landing on its roof.

The Governor confirmed that a rooftop fire, from the crash, which was being brought under control, while the fire department confirmed the pilot of the helicopter had died.

The incident happened at around 14:00 local time, approximately 19:00 GMT today - Monday and the weather is reported as foggy, wet and rainy at the time and undoubtedly played a part in the crash landing. 

An investigation is already underway into the circumstances of the incident which involved an Augusta A109E. It is understood that the pilot reported mechanical issues prior to the crash.
