Political instability and the worsening relations between Russia and Georgia will see the Russian carrier, Aeroflot will stop operating flights to Georgia beginning on 8 July. The airline says this is in line with the Russian President's Decree "On measures to ensure the national security of the Russian Federation and to protect citizens of the Russian Federation from criminal and other illegal actions", which from the given date introduces a temporary ban on Russian airlines flying citizens from Russia to Georgia, including commercial flights.
The airline will halt flights to and from Tbilisi. Aeroflot operates 14 flights a week to the Georgian capital under its summer timetable.
Aeroflot will from now focus primarily on transporting Russian citizens currently in Georgia back to Russia. Passengers who have tickets to Russia dated 8 July or later can rebook with no surcharge or penalty to an earlier date before flights are halted, or receive a full refund of the cost of their tickets.
Passengers holding tickets to Tbilisi dated prior to 8 July can receive a full refund at the point of purchase. Passengers who purchased tickets to Georgia for 8 July or thereafter can receive a full refund at the point of purchase, or change their tickets without charge to a date when flights will be being operated.
Refund of tickets purchased through the website can be made at any own sales office or via the airlines contact centre. As an alternative, passengers may be offered the option of changing flights to or from Tbilisi, without charge, to Yerevan, Baku or Vladikavkaz within the period covered by their original ticket.
