Hundreds delayed on Ibiza after Lufthansa jet's heavy landing bursts tires.

Hundreds of holidaymakers and leisure travellers have faced hours and hours of delays on the Spanish island of Ibiza after a Lufthansa jet burst several tires upon landing and blocked the runway.

The Lufthansa Airbus A321 jet was operating a flight from Frankfurt International Airport to the party island landing just before 15:00 on Saturday. According to initial reports, the aircraft registered D-AIRU, burst two tires on its right-hand main gear during the heavy landing, which also damaged the other parts of the gear.

The aircraft came to a halt some 2,300 meters and was carrying nearly 180 passengers at the time of the incident. Lufthansa said "there was no danger to the guests or crew at any time. All passengers and crew members exited the aircraft normally via the stairs. The aircraft was able to be towed off the runway and was investigated in detail by engineering."

'Lufthansa regrets any inconvenience caused to all passengers. Safety is a top priority at all times.'
