After the confirmation of the renewal of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO / IEC 27001:2017 few weeks ago, the company strengthens its commitment to the environmental management system by analyzing internal processes in order to keep under control the environmental impacts of its activities. This translates into a careful and strict control function on environmental performance, with a view to continuous improvement.
Massimo Alvaro, Managing Director Italy & Adriatics of DNV GL explains "Our audits have given a fully positive result, with the satisfaction of all the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard. A demonstration of Air Dolomiti's commitment to the continuous improvement of its environmental performance".
Joerg Eberhart, President and CEO of Air Dolomiti, underlines: "Never as in this particular historical moment has attention been paid to human actions. We have learned that everyday gestures, big or small, make a difference and those who have the power to act also have the obligation to do so. We are aware of the heavy impact that air transport activity has on the environment and the need to take steps to make it more sustainable.
By reviewing all of our internal procedures, we will be able to improve in terms of efficiency and effectiveness".
For Air Dolomiti, all this translates into a broader project that also aims to make the company more responsible: some of the staff will be directly involved so that there is a cohesive team that, through new ideas and projects, can help identify environmental effects and, with appropriate training, can make proposals aimed at achieving the objectives set.
Some "best practices" are already operational on board aircraft:
- processes of digitization of manuals and other documentation have allowed the progressive elimination of paper and consequently the reduction of the weight of each aircraft saving fuel per hour of flight;- the plastic cups and mixers used for on-board service have been replaced with paper cups and bamboo mixers, thus eliminating 11,000 kg of plastic per year.Some "virtuous actions" have also been taken at the company's headquarters:- the glass surfaces have been covered with "polymer films" to significantly reduce incoming solar radiation;- the paper material used (letterhead, envelopes, notepads, etc.) has the FSC label (from responsibly managed forests or sources);- plastic cups in beverage dispensers have been replaced with paper cups.
The company's willingness to optimize its environmental management system is an important step in the process of growth that will hopefully return once the pandemic has stopped.
