Leisure airline flies urgently needed medical protection equipment to Germany and flies in cheap Romanian labour

On Thursday 9th April, Condor's fourth cargo flight with vital medical equipment on board from Shanghai in China landed at Frankfurt Airport.

The leisure airline, formally part of the collapsed Thomas Cook Group is supporting the expansion of basic medical care in Germany and is working closely with the authorities and private clients to bring in supplies.

In the last week alone, Condor transported more than 4.25 million face masks and around 40,000 protective suits onboard it's Boeing 767 aircraft.  To help with this lifeline, the carrier has set up a mini-hub in Almaty, Kazakhstan, at short notice to bring the cargo to Germany as quickly and smoothly as possible.

See below for details of the carriers harvest helper flights from Romania to various German cities.

In the coming days, Condor is planning at least one cargo flight per day from China in addition to cargo flights to other destinations, thus contributing to the supply of goods in Germany and Europe.

"After having been able to bring back more than 75,000 travellers to Germany in recent weeks as part of the Federal Foreign Office Airlift and in cooperation with tour operators and cruise lines, we are now using our long-haul aircraft to transport urgently needed medical protective equipment for the German population from China," said Ralf Teckentrup, CEO of Condor. In the meantime, we transport the freight in the cargo hold and lash about 150 cubic meters of the life-saving cargo to the passenger seats on each flight and are delighted with the response of our growing cargo customers". In addition to face masks, protective suits and gloves are transported onboard the aircraft.

Harvest Helper Flights
The airline is also bringing in cheap Romanian labour on special flights to take care of the German harvest.  The human production line starts when farmers book their helpers directly on the Condor website at www.condor.com/bauersuchtflug and receive in the harvest helper package not only 30 kilograms free luggage allowance, a snack on board and the obligatory health check. By flying with Condor, they also ensure that the applicable clearance rules for their helpers are adhered to to protect their own farms, as the middle seat of each row is left free on all Condor harvest helper flights.

"The harvest workers flights, which provide immense support for the harvests of German farmers, Condor is making a significant contribution to securing both medical and basic food supplies," says Ralf Teckentrup.
