Delta contributes $250,000 to American Red Cross in support of Australia bushfire relief efforts

In support of the Australian Red Cross, Delta will contribute $250,000 to the American Red Cross for immediate disaster response and humanitarian relief to help those affected by the devastating bushfires that have burned millions of acres in Australia, caused more than 25 deaths and destroyed over 2,000 homes. In addition, the fires have had a tremendous impact on the region's animals and ecosystem. Australia is experiencing one of its worst droughts in decades, and the fires are forecast to continue for months.

“The record-breaking bushfires have been devastating for many Australians, and Delta has partnered with the American Red Cross and the Australian Red Cross to target resources to help provide immediate assistance to those areas hardest hit,” said Tad Hutcheson, Managing Director of Community Engagement.

Delta customers can support the disaster relief efforts in Australia by donating through a Delta-branded microsite in partnership with the American Red Cross, who is working with the Australian Red Cross.  Customers also can donate miles to the American Red Cross through SkyWish, the charitable arm of Delta's SkyMiles frequent flyer program. It allows Delta and its SkyMiles members to donate miles to charitable organizations worldwide.

The American Red Cross is Delta's longest-standing nonprofit partner, which has allowed the company, its employees and customers to help people in need since 1941. Delta employees participate in corporate blood drives throughout the year, making Delta the largest corporate sponsor of American Red Cross blood drives with 13,064 pints collected in fiscal year 2019 (year end June 30). The American Red Cross is the U.S.' premier provider of disaster relief, blood, health and safety services, whose purpose is to meet the immediate needs of individuals, families and communities affected by disasters.

Delta also has a seat on the Corporate Advisory Council of the American Red Cross and supports Red Cross agencies in Brazil, France, Mexico, the Netherlands and the U.K.

The Australian Red Cross works to alleviate suffering before and after disaster strike. Specially trained staff and volunteers have been working in impacted communities since these bushfires began in 2019 and will continue to provide support through the long recovery journey.
