easyJet launches first flight from Edinburgh to Verona

easyJet, one of Europe’s leading airlines, has launched flights between Edinburgh and Verona. The first flight took off from the Scottish capital on Saturday afternoon and provides the only direct winter connection between the two cities. Flights will operate twice a week throughout the year on the airline’s A320 family aircraft, eight of which are currently based at Edinburgh.

Over 32,000 passengers are expected to use the new service during the first season of operations. The route is expected to prove popular with those looking to experience a cultural getaway as the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its romantic artistic heritage, famous opera house and medieval architecture. Verona airport also serves those seeking a tranquil and picturesque lakeside break, providing direct connections to resorts surrounding Lake Garda.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be launching flights from Edinburgh to Verona today.

“We remain committed to expanding our network from Scotland and this is a particularly exciting addition to our base at Edinburgh. We are confident the new service to Verona will provide a popular addition to easyJet’s network.

“In total easyJet now serves 41 destinations from Edinburgh spanning the UK and Europe and this new route will complement our existing network of leisure and business flights.”

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “Verona is one of Italy’s most picturesque cities and we’re now able to add that touch of festive magic to it as we add Scotland’s only direct winter connection to Verona.
