SkyWest to Open New Maintenance Facility at San Luis Obispo

SkyWest Airlines has chosen San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport as its newest maintenance base location. SkyWest has entered into an agreement to lease the 17,000 square foot hangar from ACI Jet, a world-class FBO providing corporate aircraft management, charter, maintenance and ground handling services.

The maintenance facility accommodates up to five regional aircraft and will support overnight maintenance for SkyWest’s major airline partners beginning in September of this year. SkyWest currently has local position openings for managers, supervisors, inspectors, and aircraft maintenance technicians as it prepares to staff for its September base opening. When fully operational, the SkyWest maintenance base is slated to create over 40 new, high-paying positions at the airport.

“SkyWest selected San Luis Obispo and ACI Jet’s facility as our new maintenance base because of its location, competitive costs and position within our route network,” said Bill Dykes, SkyWest’s Vice President of Maintenance. “We’re pleased to add another maintenance base to support our growing fleet and look forward to growing our San Luis Obispo maintenance team.”

“ACI has been built by Californians committed to California and this is a great example of how we work to best serve the communities we support”; says William “Bill” Borgsmiller, ACI Jet’s CEO. “We are excited about our relationship with SkyWest Airlines and the opportunities they bring in the form of jobs to our San Luis Obispo community,” he adds.

SkyWest will use the San Luis Obispo base for overnight maintenance to support its fleet of nearly 500 aircraft. SkyWest’s decision to open a new maintenance base in San Luis Obispo is a big success for the region.

This new SkyWest maintenance base, in conjunction with ACI Jet’s recent designation as a Bombardier Authorized Service Facility (ASF) for Global and Challenger business jets, means that San Luis Obispo is quickly becoming a recognized leader on the West Coast for aircraft maintenance. As this growth continues, ACI Jet looks to the future to further develop and help the County of San Luis Obispo reach its full aviation potential.

“We’re working with our local community colleges to develop an aviation maintenance program where students can earn their A&P and move directly into a high paying, technical career in aviation.” adds Borgsmiller.
