Los Angeles Airport is plunged into darkness

Los Angeles International Airport
had a power outage for nearly four hours in three terminals. The outage struck about 6:30 on Wednesday evening and was caused by a power 'bump' at an off-airport Los Angeles substation, which caused a power disruption throughout the airport, according to airport management. It caused 21 flight cancellations and a number of arriving flights diverted to other airports.

Power was restored within an hour to terminals 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Terminals 1, 7 and 8 remained with only emergency power. One terminal had to be evacuated early Thursday morning because of mounting delays

Power was restored to Terminal 7 around 2130, Terminal 8 about 21.50 and Terminal 1 around 2200 and some of the parking areas had power resorted shortly after.

According to officials, Terminal 1, which is home to the budget carrier Southwest, had to be evacuated just before 6 on Thursday morning. due to problems with passengers and baggage not being properly screened by security. Because of that, the airport management and the TSA decided to clear the terminal and rescreen all passengers.
