Spirit starts service to Cali

After serving the country of Colombia for a decade, Spirit Airlines has officially launched flights to its fifth Colombian destination, Cali which started on December 20, 2018.

Spirit began daily nonstop flights between Alfonso Bonilla Aragรณn International Airport (CLO) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).  The route will not only connect the Cali region to South Florida but will also provide a gateway to dozens of other Spirit destinations in the United States.

Serving as home to more than 3 million people, the city of Cali and the Valle de Cauca Department is rich in beauty and culture, and joins the other vibrant Colombian cities of Cartagena, Bogotรก, Medellรญn, and Armenia currently served by the airline.

Along with the new service, Spirit also did something special for youth soccer players in the Cali area.  The airline sponsored a youth event at the famous Deportivo Cali Stadium and provided 300 soccer balls to help young athletes strive to reach their athletic goals.

“We are excited to celebrate the inaugural service in Cali, Colombia,” said Matt Klein, Spirit Airlines’ Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.  “We have seen great demand for this route, as we know many want to stay connected with family and friends, as well as visit the destinations Spirit has to offer in the United States.  Ten years after starting service in Colombia, Spirit has proven itself as a major carrier in this beautiful country and we are dedicated to giving back.”

“Aerocali is pleased with the arrival of Spirit Airlines at Alfonso Bonilla Aragรณn International Airport. The announcement of the Cali - Fort Lauderdale route is the sum of Spirit and Aerocali’s efforts to develop new air routes,” said Ricardo Alberto Lenis Steffens, Aerocali’s General Manager.  “The start of operations of this airline will expand the network of connections within the United States, beyond their hub in Fort Lauderdale. We are pleased to have an airline committed to providing excellent service to its users at very affordable rates, and hope that the commercial and tourist exchanges generated by this new route will contribute to our region's economic growth."

The start of Spirit’s service to Cali comes as the airline continues to expand.  Most recently, Spirit announced it would be adding Indianapolis, Indiana and Austin, Texas to its network and adding new routes to and from Myrtle Beach.  The airline is also in the process of installing high-speed Wi-Fi to its entire fleet to enhance the Guest experience.    --
