NetJets becomes fleet launch customer for Bombardier’s Global 8000 jet

New firm order for four Global 8000 aircraft valued at $312 million dollars based on 2022 list prices

NetJets will operate a fleet of 24 Global 8000 aircraft, which includes the new firm order for four Global 8000 jets; eight conversions of Bombardier aircraft previously ordered; and aircraft already on order or in service.

Bombardier confirmed that NetJets, its long-time valued customer and a world leader in private aviation, will become the fleet launch customer for the Global 8000 aircraft. Adding to its already massive global fleet of more than 850 aircraft (and still growing), NetJets has placed a new firm order for four Global 8000 aircraft, valued at $312 million dollars and converted eight existing orders for Bombardier products. This transaction adds to Global 7500 aircraft already on order and in service. NetJets will build a 24-strong fleet of the performance leading Global 8000 aircraft, as they will also be working with Bombardier to upgrade the entire in-service Global 7500 fleet to Global 8000 jets when they begin taking delivery of its new flagship aircraft. NetJets could subsequently grow its fleet—the world’s largest, most diverse fleet in private aircraft—through a series of options that could be exercised progressively over the coming years.

Bombardier has expanded its London Biggin Hill Service Centre, the latest addition to the company’s extensive and growing worldwide customer service network. Located at the bustling London Biggin Hill Airport, the newly enhanced London Biggin Hill Service Centre has grown to nearly 250,000 square feet (approximately 23,225 square metres), adding a suite of new maintenance and modification capabilities and full-service interior finishing capacity for its family of Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft.

With its new, sought-after service capabilities and additional hangar space, Bombardier’s gleaming service centre – the largest business jet MRO facility in the UK – is the perfect oasis for customers of the OEM’s growing fleet of business jets. Bombardier’s London Biggin Hill Service Centre is the largest tenant at the London Biggin Hill Airport, providing customers with complete heavy maintenance capabilities, wheel and battery shops, a component paint shop and much more. The new hangar has transformed from eight to 22 service bays, increasing on-site capacity to accommodate a wide array of aircraft, including up to 14 Global 7500 aircraft at one time – as well as Bombardier’s newly launched Global 8000 business jet when it enters into service in 2025.

Bombardier defense starts special modification package as part of PEGASUS Project

Bombardier Defense celebrated the arrival of a Global 6000 aircraft in Wichita, Kansas as part of the next phase of the company’s contract to support Lufthansa Technik’s participation in the HENSOLDT-led PEGASUS program of the German armed forces. Bombardier Defense will utilize its expertise to perform major structural modifications to accommodate the "Kalætron Integral" signal intelligence (SIGINT) system developed by HENSOLDT, which collects and analyzes military signals from radar and radio systems. The integration of this system will subsequently be performed at Lufthansa Technik’s special mission aircraft competence centre in Hamburg, Germany. Bombardier has previously delivered three Global 6000 jets to Lufthansa Technik since the aircraft was selected for the program in 2020.

Structural modifications represent first major European customer work package since Wichita appointed main hub for Bombardier Defense earlier in 2022

This milestone marks the first major work package for a European customer performed at Bombardier Defense’s U.S. Headquarters in Wichita, Kansas since the company unveiled the site’s new mission in April 2022. Bombardier Defense will now be transitioning to the aircraft modification phase after its engineering team developed precise and mission-specific designed solutions. Bombardier Defense will then perform testing and required certification of the modified aircraft. As part of this program, Lufthansa Technik will perform and support systems integration for Hensoldt, in addition to engineering and modification work contracted to Bombardier Defense.

Global aircraft are ideal for critical special missions. Modern-day intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems are lighter and more compact, no longer requiring commercial aircraft proportions. Missionized versions of Global aircraft are in service with elite military clientele, having completed thousands of missions over the last decade and demonstrating excellent dispatch reliability. Global aircraft are especially attractive for military use because of their ability to operate at high altitudes as well as their speed, agility, endurance, and low operating costs compared to other aircraft in their class.

Bombardier has reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2022, marked by solid revenues, a significant improvement in adjusted EBITDA(2), continued positive free cash flow(2) generation and a growing backlog that reflects strong order activity. The company also continued to reduce debt, with a further $100 million(5) reduction through cash on balance sheet. Order activity continued to be strong, marked with an increase in backlog and a unit book-to-bill(4) of 1.3. 

“Our performance in the third quarter of 2022 demonstrated that our fundamentals are very strong, especially when it comes to profitability, free cash flow(2), liquidity, as well as continued and steady debt reduction from our balance sheet. We are progressing steadily and confidently toward our long-term objectives,” said Éric Martel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bombardier.

Solid Financial Performance from Operations in Third Quarter of 2022 

Revenues were at $1.5 billion in the third quarter of 2022, with full-year deliveries on track for more than 120 aircraft(1). These include a 20% year-over-year increase in aftermarket revenues, which rose to $372 million, thanks to increase in flight hours, but also to the expansion of Bombardier’s service centres in strategic locations around the world.  

“Our most recent service centre inauguration in Florida strongly emphasizes the important contribution of the growing aftermarket business to our bottom line,” said Martel. “With the addition and expansions this year of our service centres and one more inauguration event to come in the United Kingdom this month, we have increased our service centre footprint by no less than 1 million square feet.”

Canadian business jet maker, Bombardier has officially opened its new Miami-Opa Locka Service Centre at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF) in Miami-Dade County, Florida. 

The new facility plans to add close to 300 aerospace jobs in the community, including more than 225 highly skilled technicians. Once fully ramped up, the 300,000-square-foot facility will more than quadruple Bombardier’s current maintenance footprint in Florida and allow the company to transfer its service centre operations from Fort Lauderdale to the new one-of-a-kind customer service centre at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF).

“The U.S. is an important market for Bombardier with close to 3,000 aircraft in our fleet, and this highly-efficient facility provides a key focal point for customers based in the area, and those who will visit from as far as Latin America,” said Éric Martel, President and CEO, Bombardier. “Bombardier began this year by naming Wichita as our new headquarters in the U.S, and I am delighted to highlight this inauguration that significantly grows our footprint and employment base in Florida. Bombardier says the new facility is fully equipped to perform extensive and complete full-service scheduled and unscheduled heavy maintenance, paint enhancement services, aircraft modifications, avionics installations as well as Aircraft on Ground Support (AOG) for all Bombardier business aircraft ranges.  

Bombardier is also currently hiring additional maintenance technicians both in Florida and across its entire service network to support its recent expansions. 

Bombardier and Signature Aviation reach a multi-year agreement for the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)

Bombardier and Signature Aviation have reached a multi-year agreement for the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) quantities, utilizing the Book and Claim system, covering all of Bombardier’s flight operations starting in January 2023. The agreement is the first of this scope for a business aviation original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

The initiative will reduce the annual greenhouse gas emissions associated with fuel use in Bombardier’s flight operations by approximately 25%, a significant gain.

“Bombardier already has a unique environmental advantage as our production facilities in Quebec are powered by cleaner hydroelectricity. We will drive our environmental stewardship even further by covering all our production flights with SAF through the new agreement with Signature Aviation,” said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Executive Vice President Services and Support, and Corporate Strategy. “More of our customers are using SAF and so must Bombardier – we must all share in the responsibility for a sustainable future. We believe that taking action today allows us to have maximum impact on the sector as a whole and on the production of SAF.”

“Signature Renew’s Book & Claim program is business aviation’s most pragmatic approach to making the lowest overall carbon intensity SAF quickly and easily accessible,” explained Tony Lefebvre, Chief Executive Officer for Signature Aviation. “Over the last two years, Signature has grown our SAF supply points to 17 global airports, or around 10% of our total network of private aviation terminals. But until we reach the milestone of SAF at every one of our terminals’ fuel farms, Book & Claim gives critical coverage to gaps in supply while immediately taking greenhouse gasses out of the atmosphere. Canadian business jet maker Bombardier has confirmed the grand opening of its new Melbourne Service Centre at Essendon Fields Airport in Melbourne, Australia. The new facility at full capacity,  will add 65 aerospace jobs in the community, including more than 48 highly skilled technicians and boost Bombardier’s customer service footprint in Asia-Pacific by some 50,000 square feet.

Australia is a key market for Bombardier with more than 80 aircraft in its Australian business fleet and this new, highly efficient facility will serve as an important gateway to Asia-Pacific, serving as a key focal point for customers in the region and for future growth prospects of the Bombardier fleet.

“The addition of the Melbourne Service Centre is the latest in a series of worldwide infrastructure investments aimed at enhancing Bombardier’s customer service capacity in line with our 2025 plan,” said Éric Martel, President and CEO, Bombardier. “In the past year, we have added close to one million square feet of service capacity in several key locations, solidifying our plan to bring more Bombardier jets home no matter where they operate.”

Earlier this year, Bombardier enhanced its customer service footprint in Asia-Pacific with the opening of the new Singapore Service Centre. Mr Goldberg, a long-time Bombardier customer, was previously announced as the launch customer for the new super mid-size aircraft at NBAA 2021 and will take ownership of the aircraft later this year.

The latest evolution in the highly successful Challenger lineage, the Challenger 3500 aircraft offers many of the features of the company’s ultra-luxurious Global family as standard equipment, including Bombardier’s stylish and exclusive Nuage seat. Air France takes delivery of its 10th Airbus A220-300

The Paris-based Air France continues to integrate the latest-generation aircraft into its fleet with the addition of its 10th Airbus A220 plane, formally known as the Bombardier CSeries.

A mini-milestone was reached with the arrival of its 10th Airbus A220-300, the latest jewel in its medium-haul fleet. The aircraft, with registration number F-HZUJ, left the Airbus assembly line in Mirabel (Quebec) to join Paris-Charles de Gaulle, where it will operate the company’s short and medium-haul flights. It operated its first commercial flight to Venice, today 5th July 2022.

The aircraft sports its new name “Auvers-sur-Oise” at the front of its fuselage, in reference to the town north of Paris which is internationally known for the landscape and impressionist painters Paul Cézanne, Camille Corot and Vincent Van Gogh. The Dutch painter spent his last days in Auvers-sur-Oise during a period of intense creativity.

Since 2019 and the delivery of its first Airbus A350, Air France has revived the tradition of naming its aircraft after French towns. Auvers-sur-Oise is the 96th town to be honoured on the company’s aircraft.

Between now and the end of 2025, 60 A220-300s will gradually replace some of Air France’s medium-haul aircraft. With up to 15 deliveries scheduled each year, this is the fastest fleet integration of an aircraft in the history of Air France.

An aircraft boasting an improved economic and environmental performance

The most innovative and efficient single-aisle aircraft in its category, the Airbus A220-300 is perfectly suited to Air France’s short and medium-haul network. It provides a cost reduction per seat of 10% compared to the Airbus A318 and A319 and stands out for its energy efficiency, consuming 20% less fuel than the aircraft it replaces and its CO2 emissions are also reduced by 20%. Its noise footprint is also 34% lower.

These characteristics will play a decisive role in reducing Air France’s environmental footprint and achieving its sustainable development objectives.

Within the framework of its “Air France ACT” programme, the company is targeting a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger/km by 2030 compared to 2019. This target excludes so-called “offsetting” actions in order to exclusively take into account measures that strictly reduce direct and indirect emissions.

This summer, the Air France Airbus A220-300 serves Berlin, Hamburg and Munich (Germany), Milan-Linate, Milan-Malpensa, Bologna, Rome, Naples and Venice (Italy), Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), Copenhagen (Denmark), Athens (Greece), Helsinki (Finland), Vienna (Austria), Warsaw (Poland) and Stockholm (Sweden) on departure from the Air France hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. 

Optimal comfort on board

This aircraft has 148 seats, in a 3-2 seat configuration offering 80% of customers a window or aisle seat. The seat is the widest of the market for single-aisle aircraft. It is reclining and features an adjustable headrest, leather upholstery and an ergonomic seat cushion for enhanced comfort. A wide solid tray table, cup holder, a pouch for storing magazines and books, individual USB A and C ports and a tablet or smartphone holder integrated into the backrest complete the package.

The cabin, the most spacious and brightest in its category, is decorated in the Air France signature colours – shades of blue, a strong presence of white providing light and contrast, and a hint of red symbolising the airline’s excellence and know-how. The central aisle is particularly wide, allowing customers to move about at ease. The carpet revisits the traditional ornamental herringbone pattern, symbolizing the emblematic Haussmann-inspired world of Parisian apartments. Large panoramic windows provide natural light for the duration of the trip. Finally, the spacious baggage racks are easy to access.

The Canadian firm Bombardier has unveiled its latest business jet offering, the Global 8000 which is said to be the world’s fastest and longest-range purpose-built business jet, with the industry’s healthiest cabin for safety, comfort and performance.  The jet has a range of 8,000 nautical miles and a top speed of Mach 0.94, making routes between Dubai-Houston, Singapore-Los Angeles, London-Perth and many others all possible.

Bombardier delivered its 100th Global 7500 business jet and VistaJet’s 10th

Yesterday, Canadian planemaker, Bombardier celebrated a major milestone in deliveries of its Global 7500 business jet. The firm handed over the keys to VistaJet's 10th example of the fleet which was all the 100th aircraft.

Bombardier has suspended all activities with Russian clients........statement on Ukraine......

The Canadian firm Bombardier has issued a statement on the ongoing crisis in Ukraine following the unprovoked Russian invasion and aggression. 

The entire Bombardier team continues to be deeply saddened by the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and Europe. As a company with deep roots in communities around the world, we are first and foremost concerned with the loss of human life and the toll this conflict is taking on families. We would like to reiterate our condolences to everyone who has suffered loss over the past days. We will do our part, in any way possible, to help the governments around the world pursue an end to this horrific conflict.

Bombardier has suspended all activities with Russian clients, including all forms of technical assistance. We will continue to adhere to international laws, regulations and sanctions, as they evolve.

Furthermore, Bombardier and the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation have jointly pledged $150,000 to the Canadian Red Cross, and we encourage our team members on all continents to also donate to worthy humanitarian causes supporting victims of this conflict around the world. FAI has obtained supplementary type certification (STC) for the EpiShuttle on the aircraft type CL-600 after undergoing comprehensive tests on flammability, rapid decompression, and patient evacuation. The test was passed without any complaints or remarks.

Since FAI has installed the EpiShuttle in the Bombardier Challenger 604 on a Spectrum Aeromed MedBase with a fixed adaption to a Spectrum Aeromed Cargo Stretcher, they no longer considered the EpiShuttle to be “loose equipment” compared to other mobile medical equipment.

Due to this FAI wanted to obtain an STC for the CL-600-2B16 aircraft that included the EpiShuttle.

We appreciate all time and resources the brilliant team at FAI Air Ambulance has put into the certification process. Passed comprehensive testing

FAI in coordination with EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) and a development company defined the requirements for the STC and necessary test procedures were developed.

United to operate shuttle link between Newark Liberty and Reagan National from 31st October with two class CRJ-550

United Airlines has confirmed it will launch a new nearly hourly shuttle service between New York/Newark Liberty International Airport and Reagan National Airport from 31st October.  The mega-carrier is also adding five new flights between LaGuardia Airport and Washington Dulles Airport. In total, United will operate about 32 flights each day between the NYC and D.C. areas, a 78% increase and the most flights of any other airline.

United Airlines is also giving all of its New York City customers an upgrade: starting October 31, all of the airline's departures from New York/Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport will include a first-class option, including the 737 MAX-8 and the CRJ-550 – the world's first 50-seat regional jet with first-class seats and amenities. United will now offer over 7,000 premium seats to customers in New York City, more than any other airline, and the most in the airline's history.

"By flying spacious, modern planes out of the New York City area, we're not only giving our customers more flexibility and choice but we're also delivering a reliable, premium experience overall," said Ankit Gupta, Senior Vice President of Domestic Planning and United Express. "Our customers who regularly travel between Washington, D.C., and New York have told us they value convenience and comfort above all else, and United is committed to providing the high level of service they're asking for."

The Canadian firm Bombardier has released details of the new sustainably designed Challenger 3500 aircraft. The latest evolution of Bombardier’s hugely successful Challenger platform was unveiled at a worldwide virtual launch.

 

The next-generation Challenger 3500 aircraft, the evolution of the Challenger 350 aircraft, introduces a redesigned interior with intelligent and sustainably minded cabin features crafted to combine comfort with function. Further elevating the passenger experience, Bombardier’s exclusive and patented Nuage seat is included in the aircraft’s standard configuration – the first time a seat of this calibre is available in the super mid-size segment. As part of an overall focus on passenger wellness, this new business jet will provide a reduced cabin altitude of 4,850 ft at 41,000 ft, representing a 31% improvement compared to its predecessor.

Bombardier delivers another Global Bizz Jet or Saab’s GlobalEye Airborne Surveillance solution

Canadian firm Bombardier has delivered a fifth Global business jet at Swedish defence supplier Saab’s Linköping, Sweden, location, ready for conversion into Saab’s Airborne Early Warning and Control solution known as GlobalEye. 

The aircraft was delivered to Saab from Bombardier’s Toronto manufacturing site and underwent interiour completions work at Flying Colours Corp. in Peterborough, Ontario, prior to arriving in Sweden.

Sundt Air adds third Bombardier Challenger to its fleet

Canadian manufacturer Bombardier and Sundt Air announced this week the recent delivery of a brand-new Challenger 350 business jet. 

Sundt Air is the largest business aircraft operator in Norway and manages one of the newest and largest fleets of light, midsize and super-midsize aircraft in Europe. The Challenger 350 business jet continues to take centre stage as the preferred choice for Sundt Air’s luxury travel experiences.

Sundt Air, an executive charter, aircraft management, and special mission company based in Norway, will manage the Challenger 350 business jet out of Oslo. The aircraft will be available for charter starting in July 2021.

“As the largest operator of business jets in Norway, we are thrilled to add another Challenger 350 aircraft to our fleet,” said Tor Bratli, CEO, Sundt Air. “Our customers appreciate the Challenger 350 jet’s ideal combination of optimal performance and superior cabin comfort.”

From Western Europe, the Challenger 350 business jet can take eight passengers nonstop all the way to North America or fly from Oslo to Dubai. Its runway agility enables it to operate from highly sought-after European destinations such as Lugano and Cannes and from short runways, such as in Gstaad, Switzerland.

 In 2019, the Challenger 350 aircraft successfully completed a record speed flight from Gstaad to Malaga, Spain, completing the mission in two hours and four minutes at an average cruise speed of Mach 0.82. The Challenger 350 aircraft is also certified for the steep approach into London City Airport.

Large business jet order for Bombardier

A massive 10 aircraft order has been announced by Canadian firm Bombardier who says the value is $451.8 million at list prices.  The bizjet manufacturer has remained tight-lipped about the customer, the exact makeup of the order or the true price being paid, all they have said is the order comes from an existing customer. 

Apparently, the buyer wasn't to keep it quiet for competitive reasons, which, is sometimes code for a tax dodge or share buyback schemes to be completed.

“We are filled with pride as we announce the year’s largest business jet order,” said Éric Martel, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier. “Our portfolio ideally responds to the growing interest in private aviation, with spacious, high-performing aircraft that are designed to offer the best passenger experience in terms of convenience, comfort, air quality and a smooth ride.”

Bombardier also announced today that two Global 7500 aircraft were handed over to two different Canadian customers, marking the first deliveries of the flagship business jet in Canada. Both aircraft will be managed and offered for charter by leading Canadian aircraft services provider, Chartright Air Group, and will be based at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.
