Porter Airlines restart date kicked to 20th July

The Canadian airline based at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Porter Airlines has moved its restart date forward from 21st June to 20 July.

The regional airline that flies a fleet of Bombardier Q400 aircraft stopped flying back on 21st March 2020 at the start of the pandemic.

“It’s encouraging to see the recovery of the aviation industry in the U.S.,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. “As vaccination rates in Canada increase, we are hopeful travel restrictions and public health measures will ease, so we can recall our team members, welcome back our passengers and begin to rebuild the airline.”

Many local business commentators have voice concern over whether the carrier will ever return to the skies,  it had previously named 29th June 2020 as its restart date. The carrier then changed its mind and named 29th July 20 as the date of recommencement, but that was shifted to 31st August 20, delayed to 7th October 20, then 12th November 20, on to  15th December 20.  In 2021 previous proposed start dates include 11th Feb, 29th March, 19th May, 21st June and now July.
