At the start of this week, the Doha based Qatar Airways celebrated the opening of its new office in Amman on Monday, 2 September and was followed by an elegant VIP gala dinner on the same day.
The successful office opening ceremony was graced by the presence of the Transport Minister of Jordan, His Excellency Eng. Anmar Khasawneh and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, along with other dignitaries, senior officials and VIPs.
The property has been established to create a cohesive and distinctive working space for Qatar Airways employees in Jordan’s Shmeisani area, widely considered the principal financial and business district of Amman, Jordan. The office embodies Qatar Airways’ standard of excellence and is uniquely designed with six floors characterised with curved winged stone detailing. The building is anchored by the airline’s offices and offers for rent 24 well-appointed offices and showroom, with large underground parking, 24/7 security services, and high-quality on-site facilities management services. The building spans nearly 2,000 square metres of land and over 11,000 square metres of built-up area.
His Excellency Eng. Anmar Khasawneh hailed the opening of Qatar Airways’ new offices in Amman as the first Qatari owned investment in The Kingdom of Jordan and expressed his hopes that it would spur a series of Qatari investments within the country. He further illustrated the brotherly relations between Jordan and Qatar by highlighting the importance of overcoming challenges that hinder progress with regards to the transportation sector.
During the media roundtable held in Amman on 2 September 2019, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker, said: “Jordan is an integral market for Qatar Airways, where we operate three daily flights to Amman using wide-body aircraft, including the state-of-the-art Airbus A350. The opening of our new offices in the Kingdom comes as a response to the growing demand for quality flights, in addition to serving as further confirmation that Qatar Airways has become the airline of choice for discerning travellers from Jordan. We are looking forward to further enhancing our offerings and services in Jordan and are certain that the launch of our new offices will help us achieve our goal."
Qatar Airways launched its first flight to Amman in 1994. Since then, Amman has consistently been one of the airline’s primary destinations, with 21 weekly flights from Doha. Meanwhile, more than 400 Jordanians are employed as part of Qatar Airways Group’s team to support the group's development and contribute to enhancing its services.
Qatar Airways entered into a codeshare agreement with Royal Jordanian Airlines in 2015, allowing both airlines to reach various additional destinations around the world. The agreement recently expanded to allow passengers to fly to East Asia through Hamad International Airport. Qatar Airways was named Best Airline during the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2019. The national carrier of the State of Qatar also won the Best Airline in the Middle East, Best Business Class in the World and Best Business Class Award for their flagship Qsuite. The airline has also become the first in the world to win the World's Best Airline award five times.
Qatar Airways participates in several CSR initiatives in Jordan, including its consistent support to the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) and Foundation. Representatives from the airline have visited KHCC on several occasions over the past years, including various characters from the Oryx Kids Club to distribute gifts to children currently undergoing treatment at the centre. The airline also participated in distributing humanitarian aid packages to underprivileged families in Jordan in cooperation with the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization, Qatar Charitable Society and the Qatar Red Crescent.
Considered one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world, Qatar Airways operates a modern fleet of more than 250 aircraft to more than 160 destinations across its hub at Hamad International Airport. The airline recently launched flights to Rabat in Morocco, Izmir in Turkey, Malta, Davao in the Philippines, Lisbon in Portugal and Mogadishu in Somalia. The airline will launch flights to Gaborone in Botswana and Langkawi in Malaysia in October 2019.
