The renewed service will operate with a thrice weekly frequency throughout September 2023, offering AirAsia guests increased options to explore the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of both destinations. Recognising the growing demand of this connectivity, AirAsia will increase the frequency to four times weekly from October 2023 to March 2024, ensuring more convenience and ease for guests travelling between the two cities during this peak travel period.

AirAsia Philippines to strengthen connectivity within the country and other ASEAN destinations via Cebu hub

AirAsia Philippines is poised at strengthening its connectivity to other destinations in the country and in ASEAN via the Cebu hub.

Currently, AirAsia Philippines flies 7x daily from Manila to Cebu.  Flights to Caticlan and Davao via Cebu meanwhile remain at three times weekly.  In the same manner, flights to international destinations such as Narita (Tokyo), and Seoul (Incheon) remain daily, while flights to Taipei continue to commence four times weekly.

During his recent visit to the Queen City of the South, Capital A President and CEO Tony Fernandes expressed excitement about expanding the airline business in Cebu through AirAsia Philippines.  “Our main growth will be in Cebu.  Our team is now working out on putting plans together to grow flights to and from Cebu.  As we speak, we now have Japan, South Korea, and China.  We will do more flights to Bangkok and Bali connecting to Cebu,” he stressed.

Recently nominated in the World Travel Awards 2023, Cebu’s beautiful white sand beaches, spectacular diving spots, and cultural heritage sites have placed the province on top of the must-visit destinations in the country.  Its bustling business districts on the other hand have continued to attract business travelers.  Combining leisure and business makes Cebu a major hub for local and foreign travellers.  Its proximity to the provinces of Negros, Bohol, and Leyte among other destinations in Central Visayas also makes it a convenient convergence point for travellers.

Mr Fernandes who also expressed the intention of bringing the ride-hailing app airasia Ride to Cebu also highlighted the importance of improving major hubs such as Mactan-Cebu International Airport and Manila International Airport to attract more tourists and help rebuild the tourism industry.

“I encourage the private enterprise to not just look at full-service but also at low-cost airports which are cheaper to build and affordable for the public.  It’s about building facilities that fit the public.  People think about Bali and Phuket, but in reality, there are equally beautiful places here and the service quality is great,” he added.

To entice more guests to fly to and from Cebu to other exciting destinations, the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline is mounting 8’S A SALE! FLY FOR THE VIBE from 7 to 13 August 2023.  For as low as PHP88 for domestic and PHP488 to PHP4,688 for international flights, guests can visit their favourite destinations from 7 August to 30 September 2023.

AirAsia to start direct route between Jakarta and Perth

AirAsia announces it is flying from Jakarta to Perth for the first time, commencing 2 June 2023.

Supported by the Western Australian Government through Tourism Western Australia (TWA) and the Perth Airport, the direct service will run four  times a week initially, delivering over 1,400 visitor seats weekly through Perth and Jakarta Airports, with plans to grow in line with demand. The new route was announced today in a ceremonial event in Perth, Australia, attended by representatives from the TWA, Perth Airport, Indonesia AirAsia and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia.

Indonesia Airasia is now the only airline flying this popular route between Jakarta and Perth post pandemic. The two-way travel between Indonesia and Australia has always been incredibly popular for a number of reasons including the convenient flight time and appeal of both destinations for shopping, dining, adventure, beaches, as well as education. According to the Embassy of the Republic Indonesia, the number of Indonesian students in Australia this year alone have already reached more than 20,000, an increase from 15,000 in 2022.

CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, Veranita Yosephine, expressed her excitement and optimism of the new route, “This is the first time Indonesia AirAsia has ever flown on this route - thanks to our tourism and airport partners for helping to make these new services a reality. We foresee this new Jakarta - Perth route will  be very popular for leisure travelers wanting to see more of Indonesia and for the more than 270 million Indonesians (more than ten million residents in Jakarta alone) wanting to visit Perth and West Australia  for business, leisure, studying and visiting friends and family.

“With the great support of Tourism West Australia and Perth Airport we are confident these new services connecting the Indonesian capital with West Australia’s, will be in strong demand, especially because from Jakarta Australians can also fly on to many incredibly popular and other relatively unknown gems throughout Indonesia like Lake Toba, Labuan Bajo, and the newest destination Lampung province in Sumatera.”

The Western Australian Minister of Tourism, Hon. Roger Cook MLA, said, “The launch of this important Air Asia flight affirms Perth’s reputation as the Western Gateway to Australia. Having a direct connection with Jakarta will drive visitors from the priority inbound market of Indonesia to Western Australia, to experience our beautiful state and engage with our incredible tourism industry, injecting millions into our economy and creating jobs for West Australians. We strongly encourage Indonesians – particularly those with friends and family in our state – to take advantage of these fantastic new flights and visit your loved ones here in Western Australia.”

Teleport to add three Airbus A321 Freighters to its cargo fleet

Teleport, the logistics venture of Capital A which was previously known as AirAsia Group Berhad, has announced the expansion of its fleet with the addition of three Airbus A321 Freighters. AirAsia and Skyports secure partnership to explore air taxi vertiport development in Malaysia

Skyports Infrastructure, the world’s leading Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) infrastructure developer, and AirAsia’s Advanced Air Mobility, a dedicated unit of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (the aviation arm of Capital A), have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to explore the development of air taxi infrastructure in Malaysia.

The partnership between AAM industry expert Skyports, and AirAsia, a traditional airline operator, is an important next step in establishing a fully operational vertiport network in the country. As the industry matures, partnerships between traditional aviation players and AAM specialists are essential in developing a practical, well-studied, and well-integrated network of vertiports.

Already a global leading brand in the commercial airline industry, AirAsia is also actively involved in the operationalisation of AAM in Malaysia. In the past year alone, the company announced future plans to lease 100 Vertical Aerospace VX4 eVTOL aircraft from Avolon, launched its drone training programme, and most recently, extended drone-related training to the high-technology related sectors.

Leveraging the strengths of both parties, the partnership will draw on AirAsia’s aviation expertise and experience, as well as its on-ground market knowledge and networks. Complementing this, Skyports Infrastructure brings to the table its global portfolio of designing and building take-off and landing infrastructure for eVTOL passenger aircraft. Skyports Infrastructure’s work is also instrumental in advancing regulatory development across markets, through close collaboration with local regulatory bodies and standards setting organisations.
