Boeing 737 Max out until at least 2nd November says American Airlines

American Airlines issued a statement on Sunday that confirmed the mega-carrier was extending the time its Boeing 737 Max aircraft are grounded until November 2nd.



American Airlines says it 'remains confident that impending software updates to the Boeing 737 MAX, along with the new training elements Boeing is developing in coordination with our union partners, will lead to recertification of the aircraft this year. We are in continuous contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and other regulatory authorities.



American is extending cancellations for the MAX through Nov. 2. By doing so, our customers and team members can more reliably plan their upcoming travel on American. In total, approximately 115 flights per day will be cancelled through Nov. 2.'

Delta flies Washington D.C. population in single day

For the first time in Delta's history, the airline flew more than 700,000 customers in a single day—700,094 to be exact— capping off a busy July 4 holiday weekend travel period and besting its previous record notched on June 21 this year. 

Equivalent to moving the population of Washington D.C. in a day, the new record marks the near midpoint of a busy summer where Delta and its regional partners fly more than 6,000 mainline and Delta Connection flights on average across the global network daily.

London wins bid to host world-leading robotics and AI conference

London has been selected ahead of other European cities to host IEEE Robotics and Automation Society’s (RAS) flagship International Conference on Robotics and Automations (IRCA) in 2023.

The UK capital will welcome over 4,000 of the world’s top experts and researchers in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics for a four-day conference to be held at ExCeL London between 29th May and 2nd June 2023.

ICRA will be the first major international robotics and automation congress to be hosted in the UK and is expected to bring over £13m economic benefit to London.

In a highly competitive bidding process, London was chosen ahead of other shortlisted cities, Vienna and Copenhagen. The city’s bid was fronted by Professor Kaspar Althoefer from Queen Mary University of London with the support of the London Convention Bureau, ExCeL London and MCI UK.

Reforms needed to maximise aviation benefits in South Africa

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) presented its latest study on the economic value of air transport and tourism to South Africa, and identified opportunities for significant expansion over the next 20 years if key policy reforms are made.

In 2017, 20.9 million passenger journeys were made to, from and within South Africa, with aviation and tourism representing USD 9.4 billion in gross value added. It accounts for 3.2% of South Africa’s GDP and supports 472,000 jobs. Over the next 20 years the South African market could more than double in size, resulting in 23.8 million additional passenger journeys, over 372,000 more jobs, and a total of USD 20.2 billion in GDP by 2037.

Allegiant sees passenger numbers rise in June

Allegiant Travel Company reported its preliminary passenger traffic results for June 2019 late last week which demonstrated that whilst the ultra-low-cost airline's load factor dropped slightly, it still saw passenger numbers rise by just over 14% from last years figures.

London Stansted opens new check-in area as part of ongoing transformation project


Passengers using London Stansted this summer will benefit from a new and improved check-in area thanks to the completion of the latest terminal upgrade as part of the airport’s ongoing transformation project.

Eight new check-in desks opened at 5am on July 11 with passengers travelling with TUI to Heraklion in Crete the first to use them.

East Midlands Airport (EMA) has maintained its ‘Good’ rating in the latest Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) report that annually reviews accessibility at UK airports.

For the second year running, the airport’s services for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) have been recognised with this rating, following a step-change in the quality of PRM services last year.

Air France and Allianz Travel team up to launch proactive insurance in case of flight delays

Air France and Allianz Travel are launching proactive travel insurance for flight delays. All customers who have purchased a ticket on www.airfrance.fr and taken out Allianz Travel insurance, now automatically receive €50 per person when their flight departure is delayed by more than 2 hours. Customers do not have to file claims or provide receipts to receive compensation.

Atlantic Airways, the Faroe Islands flag carrier, has taken delivery of its first A320neo, MSN8918. Leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC: NYSE: AL), this aircraft is powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines and is configured in an all-economy cabin layout.

With its new Airbus fleet member, Atlantic Airways will further develop its European network. The airline, an Airbus customer since 2008, already operates an all-Airbus fleet of three A320 Family aircraft (currently two A319ceos and one A320ceo). In addition, the airline also recently placed a firm order for two additional A320neos.

Airbus Helicopters is implementing a new Executive Committee on 1 September 2019 with the goal of simplifying and strengthening cross-function collaboration within the company.

To achieve this, we have regrouped certain functions into single organisations such as Programs, Quality and Aviation Safety, and Operations. Bringing Strategy, as well as the DTO and Company Transformation, functions to the Executive Committee is essential in preparing the future of our business” said Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters. “I am confident that this new team will continue to boost our performance and bring value to our customers” he added.
