easyJet sees summer bookings take off after UK Government changes amber list quarantine rules

easyJet has seen UK bookings surge within hours of the UK Government confirmation that from 19 July, fully vaccinated travelers will no longer be required to quarantine when returning to England from Amber list destinations.

Flight bookings to Amber list destinations for this summer increased by 400% and holiday bookings by over 440% week on week, in the hours since the announcement. Spain, Greece and Portugal are proving to be among the most popular Amber list countries for flights and holidays this summer, with Alicante, Malaga, Faro, Nice and Corfu the current front runners for Amber list flight bookings.

To serve demand, easyJet has put over 145,000 extra seats for this summer on sale between the UK and Amber list countries including Spain, Greece, Portugal, France, Italy, Croatia and Cyprus. Great value fares are now available to book for this summer from just £22.99*.

easyJet is operating around 5 million seats on flights between the UK and 85 Green and Amber list destinations across Europe this summer, providing customers with more opportunity to reunite with friends and family or take a long-awaited summer holiday.

Johan Lundgren, easyJet CEO commented:  ”We have been delighted with the customer response to the removal of Amber list quarantine for the fully vaccinated, so Europe has now turned Green for the double jabbed. We have always said that vaccination is the key to unlocking travel and this means that millions will finally be able to reunite with family and loved ones abroad or take that long-awaited trip this summer.

easyJet is ready and able to ramp up – we fly to 85 Green and Amber destinations across Europe and could operate up to five million seats between the UK and Green and Amber countries this summer.  We urge the Government to remove expensive testing for fully vaccinated people travelling to low risk Green and Amber destinations as we do not want to see a return to flying being a preserve of the rich. We look forward to playing our part in getting the country flying again this summer.”

All customers booking flights and holidays already benefit from some of the most flexible policies under its ‘Protection Promise’ which means that customers can book now with the confidence that if their plans change, so can their booking.

easyJet has partnered with approved testing firms across Europe so that customers can get access to convenient and affordable testing, including PCR tests from £43 if required for their trip when they book flights and holidays at easyJet.com. The airline has also launched a new travel insurance policy which includes COVID-19 cover as standard. The new COVID-19 travel insurance will cover customers who are diagnosed with COVID-19 ahead of a trip, providing the necessary rearrangements or refunds, as well as cover to customers for any required medical care if diagnosed with COVID-19 during their trip. Customers who are unable to return home due to being diagnosed with the virus are also covered for additional accommodation, necessary medical assistance, and the cost of returning home safely.

The safety and wellbeing of all customers and crew remains easyJet’s highest priority and the airline continues to have a number of biological safety measures in place onboard in line with guidance from the relevant authorities. This includes daily enhanced cabin disinfection effective in protecting against coronavirus for at least 24 hours and mandatory mask wearing for customers and crew. All easyJet aircraft are already fitted with HEPA filters, similar to those used in hospitals, which filter 99.97% of airborne contaminants in the cabin, including viruses and bacteria.
