French nationals and companies told to leave Pakistan

The French Authorities have issued an urgent update to all French nationals and companies to immediately leave Pakistan amind a wraith of anti-French protests erupting across Pakistan this week.

"Due to the serious threats to French interests in Pakistan, French nationals and French companies are advised to temporarily leave the country," the French Embassy in Pakistan said in an email to French citizens and the media. "The departures will be carried out by existing commercial airlines." the embassy advises. 

There has been an increasing amount of anti-French sentiment in the country since the French President Emmanuel Macron expressed support for the magazine Charlie Hebdo’s right to republish the Prophet Mohamed cartoons last year.  

Tehrik-i-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) a staunchly hardline Islamic group has been stepping up its calls for proeststs and a boycott on France and French products in recent weeks.  Pakistani Interior Ministry has stateed in recent days that it will outlaw TLP.
