Delta honoured with Nomi Network’s Corporate Social Responsibility Award for anti-human trafficking action

During the pandemic, Delta has donated $25,000 in un-used assets to organizations fighting human trafficking

Delta recently supported the opening of Atlanta-based Wellspring Living’s Receiving Hope Center with clothing, supplies and essential goods

The Nomi Network honoured Delta and Allison Ausband, Senior Vice President – In-Flight Service, with the 2020 Corporate Social Responsibility Award at its annual gala on Sept. 13.

Nomi Network's mission is to create economic opportunities for survivors and women at risk of human trafficking by providing leadership, entrepreneurship and technical skills to become financially independent. Nomi’s mission syncs with Delta’s, as we create career opportunities for trafficking survivors through our apprenticeship program.

“We’ve seen how COVID-19 is disproportionally impacting human trafficking victims, and this current moment calls every single one of us to hold fast to our focus and our fight,” said Ausband, Executive Sponsor of Delta’s #GetOnBoard campaign to end human trafficking. “It’s more important than ever for us to come together for people who don’t have the options of safety, health or security during this time. We need everyone on board.”

According to Delta’s longtime anti-trafficking partner, Polaris, the economic effects of COVID-19 have made many people more vulnerable to sex and labour trafficking exacerbating economic need, unstable living conditions and substance use issues.

During the pandemic, Delta has donated more than $25,000 in assets to organizations fighting human trafficking, including Atlanta-based Wellspring Living, after the airline adjusted service offerings onboard and in Delta Sky Clubs. Donations include amenity kits, blankets, tableware and more. The donated items are helping organizations serve survivors of human trafficking as they rebuild their lives and regain their freedom.

Wellspring Living provides domestic sex trafficking victims and those at risk with specialized recovery services through residential and community-based programs. Wellspring recently received many of the children who were rescued in “Operation Not Forgotten.” Many of the youth went to Wellspring’s Receiving Hope Center, Georgia’s first residential intake centre for trafficked youth.

Wellspring’s Receiving Hope Center allows survivors of domestic minor sex trafficking to immediately enter a safe environment and have all their needs met and assessments completed at one location. Delta recently helped support the launch of the centre by providing clothing, supplies and essential goods to support these children during our 2020 #GetOnBoard rally against human trafficking.

Delta has also committed $2.5 million to the anti-trafficking experts at Polaris in support of the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline and has developed training for employees to identify and report human trafficking.

Delta customers have also contributed to our efforts by donating over 9 million SkyMiles to Polaris, providing over 100 flights to survivors so far. Polaris uses donated miles to help victims and survivors.
