American Airlines Suspends Service to 15 Markets in October as CARES Act Service Commitment Expires
American Airlines has announced that it will adjust its October schedule to remove service to 15 markets as a result of low demand and the expiration of the air service requirements associated with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.The U.S. mega-carrier says it will continue to evaluate its network and plans to announce additional schedule reductions in the coming weeks. In a bargaining chip with the U.S. government, American promised to re-assess plans for these and other markets if an extension of the Payroll Support Programme, which is currently under deliberation, is confirmed.
These station suspensions will be effective October 7th and will run until the start of November, at least for now, but could be extended. The full, updated October schedule will be released towards the end of the month.
