easyJet ready for a restart on 15th June....

A few days ago the budget carrier easyJet announced it was ready to restart scheduled operations, albeit on a limited scale from 15th June.

The low-cost carrier has indicated flights will operate from its UK bases at London Gatwick, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Belfast, and Isle of Man.  Additionally, easyJet will resume some flights in France from Nice, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nantes, Lyon and Lille. Elsewhere in Europe, the airline is set to start flights from Geneva in Switzerland, Lisbon and Porto in Portugal, and Barcelona in Spain.

Services will principally be on domestic routes with a small number of international routes added in and the carrier says it will slowly increase flight rotations as passenger demand increases. New sales have, according to the staff at the service centre been slower than hoped but show there is limited demand for flights.

Johan Lundgren, CEO of easyJet, said:  "I am really pleased that we will be returning to some flying in the middle of June.  We will continue to closely monitor the situation across Europe so that when more restrictions are lifted the schedule will continue to build over time to match demand."

Lundgren also said the airlines highest priority was the safety and wellbeing staff and passengers and detailed of some extra protective measures the carrier is taking, including requiring all passengers and crew to wear face masks. "We look forward to welcoming our customers back on board in June," Lundgren added.

Other additional measures include higher cleaning and disinfection procedures for aircraft cabins on a daily basis, hand sanitiser on each aircraft and no Bistro and Boutique services will be available, initially at least.

easyJet’s confirmed this week that its aircraft are fitted with particle air filters that filter 99.97% of airborne contaminants in the cabin, including viruses and bacteria ensuring cabin air is replaced every 3-4 minutes.
