Delta boosts protective medical face shield production with a target of 5,000 daily

Through its Delta Flight Products subsidiary and aided by its Delta TechOps division, Delta has increased production of critical plastic face shields to 1,500 per day on the way to 5,000 daily to support the healthcare industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Face shield production continues in partnership with the Georgia Tech-affiliated Global Center for Medical Innovation, which is coordinating distribution to hospitals around the U.S., including Delta’s key hub market cities of Atlanta and New York.

Medical professionals at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta received masks this week and took a quick moment to express their appreciation by sharing a photo and said, “Thanks, Delta, for our face shields!”

Up next: teams expect to fill a delivery of 20,000 face shields for VA Medical facilities in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina.

“As our teams broaden their efforts and expand production, it’s another great example of Delta’s culture of caring,” said Don Mitacek, Senior Vice President – Technical Operations. “It’s very meaningful for us to directly support the thousands of heroic healthcare and medical professionals fighting this pandemic every day.”

Most notably, plastic face shields extend the life of essential N95 mask respirators, a key piece of personal protective equipment for medical professionals. The shields also provide an additional barrier for other potential hazards in medical settings.
