Emirates offers staff one month unpaid leave during coronavirus downturn

The Dubai based Emirates is offering some staff the chance to take unpaid leave for up to a month at a time due to the downturn in business because of the coronavirus COVID-19.

Chief Operating Officer Adel al-Redha issued a statement saying “Considering the availability of additional resources and the fact that many employees want to utilize their leave, we have provided our employees the option to avail leave or apply for voluntary unpaid leave for up to one month at a time,”.

The airline also asked staff  “accrued a significant balance of annual leave” to consider taking that paid leave now, while there is such a downtown in business. “In all cases, we strongly encourage you to take up this opportunity if you have the support and approval of your line manager,”
